Greetings and welcome to another week of words from Weatherfield.  I hope everyone is keeping safe and well in these very unsettled times.  And without any further ado, here we go with this week’s Corrie weekly update.

It’s Gail’s birthday this week and there was a wonderful scene with Gail and Audrey getting tipsy on cheap plonk. There’s a birthday card from Gail’s dad, the long-forgotten Ted Paige and Audrey reads it, remembering him at last. “Ah, lovely gay Ted,” Audrey muses. “Or dad as I call him,” says Gail. Lovely stuff indeed. More please. This was a highlight of an otherwise rather low-mood week in Corrie. And I think we could all do with more comedy right now.

Anyway, the big story this week is Leanne and Steve’s son Oliver taking ill. He’s suffering seizures and the hospital are at a loss as to explain what’s causing them.  Leanne wonder if it’s epilepsy and David offers advice from his personal experience that’s rarely mentioned these days.  It’s kind of hard to feel for this storyline, or care about Oliver (I’m sorry but it’s true). We’ve never really seen the kid, we don’t know anything about his relationship with Steve or Leanne and he’s just three years old. It’s not as if he’s had a story or dialogue. The truth is, as ITV have already announced, is that he’ll turn out to be seriously ill and of course soaps should be applauded for spotlighting diseases of this kind.

Speaking of David, he goes looking for trouble, anything to feel a rush of emotion, of something to liven his dull and loveless life. And he finds it too, by jumping on the bonnet of a car belonging to some scallies in a rough estate. He’s chased through the estate all the way back home when the lads leave him once they spot PC Craig on the street. Craig offers David advice to stay away from the estate and join him when he goes running instead. But will a run around the block be enough to get David’s adrenaline going or does he crave more danger than Craig can supply?

Meanwhile, Yasmeen’s bail hearing takes place and she’s refused bail. Alya is beside herself with anger as Geoff recovers in his hospital bed to live and lie another day.

Over at Dev’s kebab shop, Bernie begins work under Cathy’s supervision and the two of them are at odds at first. But then Bernie brings out a can of cider, tempts Cathy into drinking at work and then as soon as Tall Matt appears (who he?) they bustle over to the Rovers to continue their drinking and chatting session at the bar.

Gemma continues to suffer from post-natal depression and with Chesney’s help she attends a counselling group session. It’s a first, positive step for Gemma as she struggles to cope with the quads.

And finally this week, the evil of racism rears its ugly head in the Bistro. Owner Ray appoints a new manager called Don at the Bistro who’s a bad ‘un through and through. Don criticises Edison’s work and Edison takes the comments on the chin, for now, but you can tell he’s not happy and unsettled over what Don has said.

And that’s just about that for this week.
