Tanisha Gorey speaks out on Corrie's sexting story

How is Asha coping since the naked pictures of her found their way onto the internet?
It comes in waves; hurt, anger devastation. When she thinks back to the party, the fact that everyone had seen it and was laughing yet no one told her, that makes it really so hard to handle.

Does she suspect it was Corey’s doing and how does that make her feel about herself and their relationship?
Yes she does suspect it was Corey as he was the only one she sent it to. She feels betrayed, she thought she could trust him and she couldn’t so now she’s doubting her own instincts, nit just over him but over everything.

What is her dad’s reaction to discovering the photos online?
He just goes into anger mode, he’s disgusted, he’s ashamed, he even involves Asha’s mum’s memory which he’s barely talked about since her death so that really hits home, it shows how angry and disgusted he is in her.

Why doesn’t Asha want Dev to go to the police with this?
She thinks it’s Corey who put the picture out there so therefore she feels it’s her own wrongdoing and she doesn’t want anyone else knowing about it. She just wants the ground to open and swallow her up, she wants no attention drawn to it whatsoever. She thought she could trust Corey, she made a bad judgement call, she’s humiliated and she doesn’t want it all dredging up anymore, it’s bad enough.

How fast does Asha’s life start to fall apart and what are the consequences at school?
She starts getting trolled, everywhere she looks people are constantly staring at her and talking about her, she can’t escape it. It’s people laughing at school, strangers commenting as she walks down the street, comments online. It’s not just at school, day by day there’s something new; first school, then her dad, her friends, people in the street, the headteacher, every day it escalates and there’s something else for her to deal with.

Does she feel she has her family’s support or does she feel too humiliated for that?
More than anything she’s just so embarrassed that both her dad and Aadi have seen it and have seen her in that way, it affects her both mentally and physically. But when they start to witness the trolling that she’s going through they jump over to her side and go into protective mode. They realise that whatever she’s done she doesn’t deserve all of this.

Asha has suffered with her self esteem in the past, what do you think this will do to her?
The skin-lightening obsession broke her down as a person and made her hate herself, now this has happened and she’s suffering from all the comments that people are making, it’s another level. I think she sheds another layer of her self esteem. She’s trying to be strong by going into school but as the days go on it escalates and it’s wearing her down more and more.

  1. did the actress really say this - or is it a рaid write-uр? The style seems too 'adult' for a teen to write.

  2. It's the official interview from ITV.

  3. Not sure how believable this is. Would Asha really strip off for a boy she isn't even going out with, and has barely spoken to?

I agree. It doesn't seem feasible that this shy lass who lacks confidence would strip and bare all for a lad she hardly knows.
Any teen (girl or boy) with a thread of common sense would say no. But it's a plot line, so it must go ahead.

  5. I don't know about anyone else but I get so bored with the "corrie kids" storylines. I could care less that asha showed some guy her boobies. I just find myself skipping forward when a storyline is focused on only the kids.

  6. What happened to the bleaching issue...that was interesting....did the writers back burner it - what is going on?
