Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 17 April

Evening Corrie fans, it’s Kelly here with your Friday night review.

Over at No. 1 the teenage party is still going on, much to Amy’s dismay. Unfortunately, poor Asha is about to have a far worse night as unbeknown to her a vicious Kelly has forwarded the video of her stripping for Corey to the entire party group. The other teenagers start to stare and whisper, but before Asha can work out what is going on, Aggie arrives threatening to call the police, quickly followed by Dev who drags her and Aadi out.

Meanwhile in the Rovers, Liz (who appears to have taken to dressing in a curtain) is flirting with newcomer Scott with all the subtlety of Freddie Krueger in a room full of balloons. Johnny, on the other hand, seems so keen to avoid him that he suggests to Jenny that they immediately run off to visit Eva in France. What is their story? In another booth, Evelyn and Arthur bond over their shared love of environmental protest. I’m enjoying Evelyn’s new glam look. Could she give Liz some style tips?

In other news, over at Stillwaters Ken has his ego dented by losing his fencing match to Charles. As he sulks, Norris reveals that while Charles was distracted, he pinched the Stillwaters’ Rule Book from his sports bag. Reading through the book, Ken, Claudia and Norris discover that there’s no cleaning charges or parking charges and that its ok to walk on the grass. Ken looks forward to exposing Charles’ fraud to the rest of the residents.

In other news, Leanne continues her campaign to take Michelle Connor’s place as the most self-righteous shrew on the Street. She spends the entire episode nagging Steve about what a terrible irresponsible father he is to Oliver, which is quite a high horse for someone who raised the hardly whiter-than-white Simon. She then has the audacity to look genuinely surprised when Steve snaps and tells her he’s fed up with her always laying down the law and responds by telling him they should get their solicitors involved.

Back at the party, Aggie has called the police, who arrive just as Tracy, Steve and Peter come around the corner. With Tracy raging at her daughter over her broken lamp and ruined throw, Peter manages to get in a brilliant dig about Tracy’s adolescence: "Don't worry about her, she's only jealous, her idea of a teenage party was pressing 'play' on a tape recorder". If Amy could have called her mum a “rotten cowing tart” this would have been the perfect episode for me!

Over at No. 7 as Aadi pukes up his stolen vodka a devastated Asha finds that everyone has seen her naked pictures and that Pastel-Blue and her horrible cronies are trolling her and calling her a skank. Poor Asha, it’s hard being a teenager these days. In my formative years you’d be lucky/unlucky if even one person bought a camera to a party. Then it could take months to develop the film. If you’d had a terrible perm or overdone it on the Sun-In you could have grown it out by the time there was any photographic evidence. Now every little dick can broadcast your mistakes on the internet faster than you can say millennial.

And that’s it for this week. See you back here in a fortnight or read more of my gibberish on twitter @mskelstar.

  1. Evelyn looks great. Hope it works out for her and Arthur. She sure could pass on some style tips

  2. I really like the youth getting more storylines. The actress who plays Asha has proven before she is a good actress so it's great to see her in another storyline. Sadly, Corrie has ruined Leanne. She used to be fun, I liked her with Peter and even with Steve when she had comedy to do. Why must she be turned so snobby? We JUST got rid of Michelle, do we really need another one so soon?

  3. Liz has always had terrible dress sense and her hairstyle is often age-inappropriate. Maybe that's why Beverly Callard is leaving?
