Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 22nd Jan 7.30 & 8.30 pm
It's been a while since a literary classic was last utilised in a Corrie plot line (the last being 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt' in Sinead's poignant demise) yet tonight's use of 'Paradise Lost' in deciphering Hope's lofty hiding place was actually a tad strange. How would Jade have known about that?
Anyway, after a few months of indoctrination from her half-sister, Hope absconding from Number 9 was a lot less mentally taxing. I mean, who can blame her? Realising she's gone, Ty and Fiz panic and jump quickly to the conclusion that Jade must be behind her disappearance.
A search party quickly gathers at the Rovers whilst the police scurry over to Jade's flat yet neither of them can find Hope. On Victoria Street, Tyrone bumps into Jade who's visibly distraught at Hope's disappearing act. I'm unsure if we are meant to believe her and I find it a tad strange when it's Jade who then finds Hope at their father's graveside. Simultaneously, Fiz finds the passport and ferry tickets after breaking into her former friends flat!
Chesney isn't having much luck with his brood either. The 'Freshco four' are fine but still at the hospital recovering from the arson attack. With the vigilante fire starter still not caught, the police tell the couple that a cop car shall be stationed outside but luckily Freshco's pay for a hotel instead. You'd imagine Weatherfield police being permanently parked on the street with recent events.
Speaking of which, Adam did propose during the shoot-out didn't he? Recovering from the commotion of Shona's coma, Sarah vocalises her wedding day plans and asks Bethany to be her Maid of Honour. Later, Adam asks Daniel to be his best man (but not Ken?).
Meanwhile, Bethany thinks she will be offered the Bistro manager's job but Alya pips her to the post. Some rivalry is sure to come between these two. Alya charms her new boss and slime-ball Ray appears to relish in having these young beauties on his team. The misogyny hasn't gone unnoticed by me.
Speaking of which, two-timing Tim tests his relationship with Kevin (again) and continues to act bullish, obnoxious, and a bit too caveman for my liking! With Charlie back on the scene and demanding money, I think Tim may need (newly minted) Kevin's friendship and sooner rather than later. I also think Tim is, in fact, a chip off the old block and is probably a lot more like Geoff than we are being led to believe. What do you think? Lying to his first wife about his second (or vice versa), claiming Abi is his cleaner and failing to appease Kevin with alcohol! It sounds familiar, doesn't it?
At the cafe, Roy's offer of pregnancy advice to Maria (who has a nice new hairdo by the way), seems to be an odd choice of comedy, but it does provoke Sarah into goading Gary. Carrying the argument into the Rovers, Sarah can't help being snide and shady. Is she jealous of Maria, or just jealous that Gary's life of crime seems to be paying off?
Bringing Hope back to the street and into the arms of Tyrone, Jade seems genuinely distraught, and Hope is soon at the hospital (again). I assume there's a direct tram from the cobbles to the Children's Ward? In another room of the hospital, Gemma tells Paul that he may be best moving on with his life and forgetting about Kel.
Arriving home, Fiz opens the door to discover Jade in her house and proceeds to whack her with a chopping board. Slightly unsuspected and I suspect Fiz's suspended sentence is now going to be un-suspended. Is Jade dead or has Fiz just made everything that little bit worse?
What did you think to this mid-week Corrie? let us know in the comments section.

Is it just me or isn't Sarah being rather insensitive planning a wedding when her sister-in-law is lying in a coma?
ReplyDeleteNo, it's not just you. Sarah often puts her wants above what's best for her extended family. Example - She took up with Callum just to spite David and brought chaos upon the family. She and Adam have every right to plan their future but a more subtle approach to the festivities might be good.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Planning a wedding when her brother's wife is in such a situation...tacky. And no matter what she thinks of Gary, I think it is cruel to refer to an unborn child as Damian and mentioning a fin. Very insensitive and childish.
ReplyDeleteFiz is such a hot head, and she is not beyond lying to protect herself..... She is wishy washy as a mother, and cruel at times...remember she let Ruby take the blame for Hope's bad behaviour.
ReplyDeleteTime to get rid of Fizz and Hope and let Tyrone carry on with his little girl and his gran. Poor Ruby.
Considering that she and Adam were kissing outside Shona's hospital room after she agreed to marry him,I'm disgusted but not surprised by Saran's selfish behaviour.
