Tristan Gemmill interview: Has Robert killed Vicky?

How had Robert felt since he was exposed on his wedding day?

He is in shock he thought that Michelle had wanted to move on and make things work. He was blindsided and shattered by it, he realised that everything had come home to roost. He was stunned that he had not seen it coming, he hasn’t got a leg to stand on he is broken and upset.

Does Robert feel the net is closing in on him with regards to Vicky’s disappearance?

He has motive and is struggling to convince people that he had nothing to do with it. If he has done away with her he must realise that he would always be the prime suspect. Everyone is telling him he should be looking for his girlfriend but he is more bothered about Michelle and he doesn’t protest his innocence straight away so it isn’t looking good for him.

Is he capable of murder?

He has tried everything to try and move on from the mistakes that he has made but if Vicky had continued to try and cause him problems and stop his wedding going ahead then he could have got very angry and made sure she didn;t get to the wedding. I certainly don’t think he would deliberately kill the woman who is carrying his baby.

In this week we see him desperately trying to prove his innocence. Will anyone believe him?

The problem Robert has is that he has been proven to be a very good liar so he is going to struggle to convince people that his version of what happened is the right one. His Lawyer Paula is going to have her work cut out.

This storyline is the start of your exit story have you enjoyed your time on the show?

It’s not like anything I have done before because it is so ingrained in the public consciousness you can have long slow burn storylines. Playing the same character for four years has been great. What you get over that time is that you get the feel of a family and that is unlike any other job, it has an eternity to it, and I have been very happy here. The people will be what I miss the most

What have been your favourite storylines?

In my four years I have had a lot of really good stories, steroids, testicular cancer, gambling addictions, one night stands successful and unsuccessful romances. A prison stint, Robert’s light has burned pretty brightly I have no complaints on that score.

The testicular cancer storyline saved someone’s life, a viewer in Canada saw the story, checked himself and it saved his life, he came over to the street and we showed him around. If you can have that big an effect on someone’s life then you have done something right in the world.

I have also had the good fortune of working with brilliant people like Kate Ford and Kym, Kerri  and the rest of the gang here, it is hard work. Soap has a bit of a reputation of being an easier version of drama but it’s not at all, to get it right and in the quantity we do everyone has to work exceptionally hard and I have loved being part of that.

What are you doing next?

Four years is an eternity in an actor’s life and I have been lucky enough to have that twice with Casualty and now this and I have no complaints at all. I look forward to what the future has to hold. I will be playing Captain Hook in Panto in Swansea which I am really looking forward to, I have not done panto before, it will be nice for my family to be able to come along and watch. It will be a change of tone and a bit happier than Robert’s life  has been recently.

  1. I don't think Robert killed Vicki,I think it was Michelle who did in a rage over Vicky being pregnant with Robert's child and Michelle is framing Robert as revenge.
