What has happened to Josh since we have last seen him?
Josh has done what he did to David to someone else and the guy has gone to the police. Because David has already gone to the police about Josh, Josh has been put inside due to the previous allegations. He obviously hasn’t changed his ways.
With Josh being in prison, is he remorseful? Does he ever think about David?
Josh’s attitude has always been, unless it’s proven it is not a fact. Even though he says that they can call him what they want inside, he thinks at the end of the day it can’t be proven - that’s his approach and that’s his mindset.
What is his first thought when he sees David?
In the prison, people already know that Josh is a rapist so when he sees David he panics because it makes it more real to everyone inside. He is worried for his safety now because he can’t lie about what he has been sent down for.
If one of the reasons why he raped David was about control, how does he feel about having no control in prison?
His safety is at risk and he can’t play the cards he used to play anymore. But he knows he still can use control over David and he does.
How much danger does Josh feel like he is in?
Josh is very scared. He is still full of bravado but the second he is alone with David you really see how scared and panicked he is.
What was it like to play this panicked side to Josh? Did you find it easy to pick up the character again?
It did feel like it came back to me quicker than I thought and particularly with the scenes with only Josh and David in because they were so well written. There’s two scenes that we did back to back that I feel worked really well.
When you got the call asking you to come back to film, how did it feel?
I was actually at the cinema watching a film about Manchester City when I got an email through from my agent; it was really nice to be asked back.
What was it like to film with Jack P Shepherd again? Was it different being in the setting of the prison and not the usual street?
The set of the prison was brilliant because I could really get myself into it. There were a few scenes that were challenging because it was all fight co-ordination and very physical work all day but it was really good to get myself into the mindset of being in the prison. Working with Jack again was good fun, there’s huge stakes so filming some scenes felt like it was one hundred miles an hour. We then had scenes that were just us two alone and those scenes I am really looking forward to watching because they are probably some of my favourite scenes that I have done.
