Corrie Comicals Week Ending 5 July 2019

Maria is pretending to be Robert de Niro from Taxi Driver - nice to see her doing some acting for once - but earlier she said she had back to back appointments (I certainly never book an appointment when I head to the barbers - it helps that these days I do not have much hair) and yet "Trim Up North" is empty - apart from Dr Ali who has rematerialised on the Street after weeks in another dimension.  She claims to have had a cancellation but I don't think ITV could afford the extras this week.

Emma and Maria are setting up an online dating profile for the latter.  Maria is being brutally honest - single mum & "unlucky in love" - Emma suggests the latter sounds like a jinx and Maria (whom Emma reckons could pass for 22) points out that Gail is so jinxed that her husbands have got their own vault in Southern Cemetery.

Much of Monday's episode was Geoff cracking "jokes".  As the storyline they have given him is to my mind at the least unwelcome it will not get coverage here in any form.

Beth and Izzy have been winding up Peter who tells them that to protect Carla he is going to seek power of attorney over her affairs.  Carla wanders into the Rovers just before he makes this announcement and we suddenly see a spark of the old Carla as she snaps out of her woolly head and stomps out.  Beth and Izzy cackle at Peter having been caught out!

Earlier in "Trim Up North" Maria had been asking Tyrone why they split up - with Ali listening.  As Ali observes he did think she was going a bit far when she applied the electric clamps to Tyrone's nipples to get answers!  She fails to spot that Ali seems extremely interested in a single mother who could pass for 22!

I have been waiting for something like this since Dev departed.  Evelyn has a special offer on tinned mandarins (Nick and Paula are discussing David's allegation that Nick sabotaged the factory roof due to his brain damage) but this does not stop Evelyn suggesting that the mandarins are good with evaporated milk (does anyone still consume evaporated milk?) or in a trifle.  She does not manage a sale!

It would appear that Liz is not au fait with Beth's recent success with her photograph in the local newspaper competition; as far as Weatherfield is concerned Beth is in indeed the local David Bailey, even if the lesson on photographing animals is not until next week and that Steve is not chatting up the new shareholder employee of Underworld - he just wants a picture of Rover.  (Remember Beth originally arrived as an ex-girlfriend of Steve's many moons ago).
