Geoff and Yasmeen - Yay or Nay?

What do you make of Geoff and Yasmeen as a couple? I adore Yasmeen and I'm quite fond of Geoff, despite all his faults.

But the two of them together? It's a big Nay from me.

What do you say?

  1. It doesn't work for me, I'm afraid. On paper, it might have looked good with father and son as the other halves of rival neighbours. I think it's Geoff. He doesn't have any chemistry with Yasmeen and not a great deal with Tim. He comes across as slightly under-hand. Perhaps the writers should take him that way and make him a ladies man.

  2. I commented on a previous post... definitely no! When Geoff first appeared and it looked like he might get together with Audrey, he seemed quite nice. But since then the character has become chauvinistic and completely unfunny. Yasmeen can do so much better.

  3. Nope. Just nope. Selfish, self-centered - you’re right, she can do sooooo much better. She is adorable, move on Yasmeen

  4. Big "nay" from me. I don't think the writers are doing a wonderful job for Geoff. I feel that Ken would be a much better match for Yasmeen - or someone new entirely.

  5. Another Nay. There is nothing likeable about Geoff. Bring in someone new for Yazmeen. Ken is too old for her, and a bit old for Claudia too, but the writers clearly want to keep him as a ladies' man 😀.

  6. I think they were going for an Odd Couple, rough/intellectual pairing like Tim and Sally, but Geoff isn't consistently written and has never been that interesting. It's hard to see what she sees in him.

No from me too. Geoff hasn't got much of a back story, not having been on the Street for long. It's odd cause the Coronation Street Wiki page for him has quite a bit there that I've never heard about onscreen!

This all got me remembering Bill Webster, Kev's dad, who appeared on the show over 3 separate time periods from 1984 to 2011. Having a similar role as father to a young-middle-aged long-term male character, he had more likeable qualities at times, and more history to work with. Whereas Geoff is kind of meh. He rarely interacts with his son, and now is flying too close to boring and unlikeable territory.

I really like Yasmeen and she needs to throw him out on his ear.

  8. Totally agree. Yasmeen is great and Geoff has no chemistry with her. I did like him as the DJ but not since.

  9. Geoff isn't a likeable man. That's OK, the world is full of unlikeable men, and Corrie has to reflect the real world. Perhaps they should re-cast him as a villain rather than a buffoon? We've already got one buffoon in Brian, and I think we could see more of Geoff's nasty side.
But Geoff and Yasmeen? No way - she'd see right through him and kick him to the curb PDQ.

  10. It's a big fat NAY from me. Geoff has turned out to be less than pleasant and spiteful to boot.

  11. I was very pleased when Ian Bartholomew was cast as Geoff as I am a huge fan of The Comic Strip presents films and he played a policeman in the best of the lot - Mr Jolly Lives Next Door (follow @DreamytimeE on twitter if you're also a fan).

Seeing my 2 favourite things linked by the same actor felt great. However he has suffered from poor scripts. When he first appeared he was kind and funny, now he seems like a sex obsessed weirdo, which would be fine if that's how he had been portrayed from the beginning. He is not a good match for Yasmeen. He was more likable when he was single.

  12. Nay, nay,nay. No woman of Yasmeen's
calibre would stick around his nasty, immature and spiteful ways. It is horrid to watch this character, as I cannot bear men like this in life. Man-boy.

  13. Watching the last scenes with the dinner ect I feel that Yasmeen is possibly going to be pulled in to a cohesive control relationship, with Geoof pulling the strings.

  14. Seems to be a universal Nay then!!
