Tom Elliott, who passed away in 2017 aged 79, worked as a Coronation Street storyliner and writer. He wrote for Coronation Street over almost 15 years, first as a storyline writer (1983-93), then as a scriptwriter (1990-97).
The Guardian carried Tom Elliott's obituary where it details that Tom was responsible for writing the 1986 fire in the Rovers Return that ended with Kevin Webster rescuing a screaming Bet Lynch from the pub – and the actor Julie Goodyear, who played Bet, genuinely fearing for her life when her nightdress caught fire.
When Tom Elliott died, he left behind completed stage, radio plays and short stories. His son Mark is keen to hear from anyone interested in taking these on.
Here is the post from the Tom Elliott Associates facebook page.
On behalf of TE Friends & Associates I’d just like to say a big thank you to those who’ve liked & followed our page over the past 2 years.. and also to those who’ve recently joined us .. it really does mean so much to us that Tom’s memory is kept very much alive.. all enquiries regarding any potential performance from Schools.. Colleges.. Theatre COs .. Am Drams would be welcomed, Tom’s passion was ‘live theatre’ .. he called it the ‘beating heart’ of the entertainment industry.. so after nearly 2 years searching and sorting we’ve now successfully catalogued all Tom’s printed work, the vast majority of which is in print and performed.. Also, we’ve pulled together some projects Tom was working on at the time of his passing .. which include unperformed short stories .. radio plays .. and two completed stage plays .. we’d welcome any general enquiries and would gladly send any scripts upon request .. thanks again to everyone who’s kept Tom’s work and the fond happy memories alive .. kind regards .. Mark T Elliott 🎬💙 ( I will be sorting some CDs very soon .. BBC Radio plays will inc ‘Oh Henry’ ‘The Incredible Stan Mascott & The Siege Of Rostov Cathedral’ ... and ‘Ira Plimsoll’s Marble Staircase .. thanks very much .. hawking the merch as it’s known in the theatre .. 😊🎬.. absolutely free of course.. thanks Mark E)
