Peter Salmon: Coronation Street, the show that shaped me

Peter Salmon, chief creative officer of Endemol Shine Group, has been talking to Broadcast magazine about how Coronation Street shaped his life.

It's a fascinating read about growing up in the north west – or Granadaland, as Peter thought it was really called. It's a flashback too to the days of Elsie Tanner, a youthful Ken Barlow and three busybody old ladies in the snug – Ena, Minnie and Martha.

It's a wonderful read and it's here.

In more than three decades in TV production and broadcasting, Peter has held senior leadership positions at the BBC, Channel 4, Granada TV and The Television Corporation.

A highly experienced programme creator and producer, Peter developed and ran programmes such as Crimewatch UK and the Nature environment series for BBC Bristol, where he was also executive producer of Oscar-winning Wallace and Gromit animation The Wrong Trousers (1993). At the BBC he oversaw in-house productions including ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, ‘Top Gear’, ‘Dragon’s Den’, ‘EastEnders’ and ‘The One Show’, while at Granada Television, his output ranged from Coronation Street to World in Action.
