Maureen Lipman interview: "I'm staying on the show"

Maureen Lipman, who plays Evelyn Plummer in Coronation Street, was interviewed on ITV's This Morning today.  She revealed that she's going to be very heavily involved in the leaving storyline for Fiz. Actress Jennie McAlpine, who plays Fiz, is currently off on maternity leave after giving birth to a little girl she's called Hilda.  You can read more on that here.

We've already blogged Fiz's leaving storyline details and you can read that here.

Speaking on ITV's This Morning today Mauren said this about Evelyn: "She finds Fiz too common. A lot of the characters are what my mother would have called common. Evelyn doesn't think Fiz is good enough for what is or might be her grandson. I am elbows in between Fiz and Tyrone. I would say that I'm very involved in Fiz's exit, short of kicking her up the backside."

Maureen also confirmed that: "I'm staying on the show for a while, I've got my feet under the table now. I thought I was going to die when I started on Corrie. We did 39 pages and I thought, 'It can't be like this all the time', but they were cramming my stuff in so I could do my one-woman show!"

  1. Sorry, but I don't like Evelyn or Maureen Lipman one bit. Far too much of a caricature.

  3. She wouldn't be staying if I had my way. Horrible character, horrible actress. She's not fit to be around children nor anyone else on the street!

  4. Agree with everybody else. The acting is way over the top and not at all believable.

  6. Actually I love Maureen Lipman, she is a great actress. But the character is being badly written and needs to be reigned in a bit.
