2. Kylie Platt's Death (2016)

It was all going far too well for Kylie and David, they'd got away with Callum's murder and were now planning to relocate to Barbados with Becky to get away from all the memories the street held. But the place dealt its final blow when Kylie intervened in an altercation at the kebab shop and was stabbed in the chest by Clayton Hibbs. She made it round the corner before collapsing in David's arms outside the Rover's where an emotional wait for the ambulance took up the rest of the episode. It soon became clear to Kylie that she wasn't going to survive, and she urged David to take the kids to Barbados anyway, before telling him how great they were together as she slipped away in his arms, just as the ambulance sirens were starting to be heard in the distance.

Paula Lane was fantastic and a real loss for the show, and as I said earlier, Jack P Shepherd is an absolutely outstanding actor and his scream when Kylie died is probably one of the greatest acting moments in the show's history. The episode ended with David trying to break the news to the children and he went on to play David's struggle to come to terms with Kylie's death so heartbreakingly well over the next few months. Now of course everything has gone full circle and David is happily in a relationship with Shona Ramsey, who is none other than Clayton's mum! Only in the soaps.
