Coronation Street's new odd couple

In this week's fab Inside Soap magazine there are exclusive interviews with some of the award winners of the Inside Soap Awards 2018.  You can see who won what here along with red carpet pics here.

In the interview with Jack P Shepherd, who took the award for Best Actor, he says that he lives with Colson Smith, who plays Craig Tinker in Corrie. I like to think of them as The Odd Couple of Corrie.

Jack says: "I live with Colson, and that's a challenge! I have to teach him about life and things and I do his washing. He's like my little project - my nickname is 'Dad'!"

He also revealed that he's currently filming a bit of comedy on Corrie. "I think they're trying to keep things light for David at the moment," he says. "And I've been told that something big happens at Christmas for the Platts".

I wonder if it's this?

Meet Elsa, Nick's Myst-E-rious Corrie Girl

Nick's past catches up with him on Coronation Street next week when the mysterious E arrives. She's called Elsa, and by the look of the preview picture above, he's romantically entwined with her. But why has she come to Weatherfield and what does she want with Nick? We'll have to wait to find out.

But I can reveal that Elsa will be played by British TV actress Kelly Harrison. She recently played the character of Leanne in Age Before Beauty.

She's also appeared in Casualty,  Doctors, Happy Valley, The Bill and well, the list goes on. She's a very familiar face to UK telly fans and I'm looking forward to seeing her on the Street.

See who else is joining, leaving or returning to Coronation Street

Corrie cad to be killed off at Christmas?

The tabloids are reporting today that Lewis Archer will be killed off at Christmas in Coronation Street. Now, as we know, tabloid tales might well not be true, they could be tittle-tattle, so as usual take the report with a big pinch of salt, just in case.

Mr Curry Sauce told The Sun today: “The intense plot will play out over the New Year. Nigel (Havers) always knew he wouldn’t last long on the cobbles when he signed up to return and what a way to make an exit.”

Brooke Vincent launches her own stationery brand

Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster in Coronation Street, has launched her own range of stationery planners.

Her company is called Oh So B and has its own website here

At present, there are three planners available for sale but I'm sure there'll be more on offer soon.

Good on her for doing something different, something she appears to be passionate about and really wants to do.

She says: "It's a little business which is really exciting. I'm absolutely obsessed with stationery, planners and notebooks, and everything like that, but I kind of just wanted my own.

"The last diary I bought was from America and it was £100 – my mum is going to kill me actually when she reads this – it was so expensive and I had absolute chaos trying to get it home. I ended up having to send it to a friend who lives in America and she brought it home with her and it was very stressful. But when I got it I just absolutely loved it, and I just decided I'm going to do my own."

I've often wondered how the scriptwriting team at Corrie pair up the singletons. It sounds like good fun, putting the characters together. So, with that in mind, I'd thought I'd play a game of matchmaking!

Chesney and Gemma belong together.

Chesney's relationships with Katie and Sinead were doomed and Gemma hasn't favoured well, either. Lusting after Callum got her nowhere, and her one night stand with Tyrone marked her as scarlet woman (although it takes two to tango) Her disastrous on/ off dalliance with toff Henry was never going to end happily. However, the path of true love never runs smooth. While Chesney faffs about, Gemma has no trouble seeking out a new beau. Like Rita, I don't have much confidence in scruffy tattooist Spike. Now, I'd put him with 'rough around the edges' Abi.

Even though she's blowing hot and cold, Leeanne has rekindled an interest in Nick. So who shall I pair Toyah with? With her good listening skills, compassion and clear maternal instinct, I think Toyah would be perfect for Kevin. I can picture her fitting in the Webster household nicely, showering warmth and love on to Kevin and Jack. They both badly need it at this time.

Why on earth don't Ken and Audrey get together? I've been longing for Audrey to kick Lewis out and install Ken in her comfortable, spacious semi. In fact, I'd like to see a wedding. A firmer link between The Barlows and The Platts would be good. At the moment, it looks like Claudia is going to get her claws in Ken. Yes, she's glamorous, yes, she's a good friend - but not a long- term partner for Ken.

Dev needs another love interest, doesn't he? He seems to be drawn to quirky kind of characters – Tracey, Gina, Julie. Yet these end badly. So I'd match him with the sensible Angie. While she does the books for Dev, the single working parent angle would provide them with a starting point to romance.

Billy and Sean – a triangle with Fiz's friend Kim, might be fun.

I'd pair Adam with Emma -the giggly hairdresser would make the dour Scotsman laugh.

Izzy and Ryan would make an interesting couple. After the road crash/ drugs storyline, helping Izzy at home with Jake would bring a sense of maturity to Michelle's lazy, wayward son.

Seb would be fine with Bethany, and I think bossy Gina would be good for laid- back Imran.

As for Gail and Eileen - we need a down to earth fella, someone Geoff, (Tim's dad) to create rivalry/ conflict between them again.

I could go on – a one- night stand between man- eater Moria and shy, bumbling Craig could make viewers laugh.

I can imagine a similar embarrassed 'morning after' avoidance with Peter and Alya – but I've waffled on too much.

Who do you think would make a good couple on the cobbles?

Janet Dibley joins Coronation Street

Janet Dibley is joining Coronation Street. I know the actress best for her role as Elaine in the 1980s ITV sitcom The Two of Us where she starred alongside Nicholas Lyndhurst.

Janet has appeared in The Bill, Casualty, Eastenders, Fat Friends, The Chase, Waking the Dead, Gold, and The Gingerbread Girl.  She might be best known to soap fans as Lorna Cartwright in EastEnders.

The tabloids are reporting today that Janet will play a headteacher called Melinda, at Bessie Street school, where Brian works.

Mr Curry Sauce told the Daily Star: “This is a coup for producers. Janet was a big favourite on EastEnders. But now she’ll be spicing things up at Corrie.”

See who else is joining, leaving or returning to the show.
