Corrie set to rewrite history - again

The tabloids are reporting today that a 1992 storyline in which Liz McDonald's newborn baby Katie died, is to be rewritten.

Yes, you read that right. I'm just hoping the tabloid in question has got the story wrong, but sadly, they appear to be getting leaks out of someone at ITV left, right and centre and this could be another one.

The Sun reports today that Liz and Jim's baby, who died at one day old back in January 1992 is actually alive and turns up in the show when Jim McDonald returns. Due to a mix-up at the hospital Katie was adopted by a couple who moved to Australia.

Australia? Strewth.

Here's a Youtube clip of Liz and Jim being given bad news from the doctor at the hospital just before Katie died.

I'm lost for words.  What an insult to fans - and to families who have gone through the death of a baby and have invested in this storyline, going through the emotions over the years with Liz.

Here's a Youtube clip of Liz confiding in Michelle about the loss of baby Katie.

  1. I share your disgust. Also, us long term viewers have already been through a similar storyline with Michelle and Alex/Ryan.

Makes you wonder who they might bring back from the dead next.

  3. I really hope this isn't true -- what a stupid story idea!

  4. Oh come on Corrie! Do you really think we are idiots? This constant influx of crap storylines is insulting! Just remember your fan Base took you to the top, we can also take you down. Wise up scriptwriters, a bunch of monkeys could do so much better!

  5. I'm so disgusted at this story. What next? Alan Bradley to come back from the dead? Whoever thought of this wants sacking.

Are you kidding me?? How much belief do we actually have to suspend here. Correct me if I'm wrong...Katie was born at seven months..premature...and this child, now a woman was adopted to an Australian couple. Very difficult to believe that a premature infant would be confused with a newborn.

I have watched Corrie my entire life...I have not so silently watched the changes various producers and writers have churned out that irritated me, disgusted me and disappointed me. I used to really enjoy my "Corrie experience"...the hot cuppa, a chocolate bickie and the chance to unwind. I tolerated the stupidity and drawing out of the Phelan saga...but c'mon....a person can only take so much, even a loyal fan. Someone needs to check the water cooler for drugs

  7. This really can't be true. I'm disgusted they're going down this road. Who in the right mind would think of this? It's sick. Just sick. They've well and truly crossed the line here. I really hope someone from Corrie reads this and takes these views into account and consigns this storyline to the rubbish bin where it well and truly belongs

  9. An absolute disgrace, this just defies belief on every level. Shame on you, Kate Oates. When are you leaving?

  10. 1992 was also the year that Michelle's son was swapped. I'm sensing a connection coming here.

But what an absolute insult to families that have gone through this kind of thing for real.

  11. I cannot believe that Corrie would stoop so low as to try this story line.

The suffering that Liz went through with losing the baby and the fact that it still haunts her today is so well played and accurate that as a mother who not only lost one child but two can identify with her.

To just nullify this very human, painful situation and to just cancel all of Liz's, Jim's and even Steve's experience to nothingness is just downright deplorable.

The fact that both "swaps" happened in 1992 apparently - I don't believe was a coincidence - what is corrie going to do...suggest a baby smuggling ring next?

and yes anonymous 22:57 it is an insult.

  12. I laughed when I first saw it on some tabloid rag, now I'm horrified it could be an actual storyline. Corrie is getting as bad as American soaps :(

  13. Agreed Christine K. All we need now is an evil twin to suddenly appear and a remote tropical island with a crazed person at the helm. I watch Corrie because it isn't like American soaps. Maybe I'll find something else to do with my time if this kind of crap continues.

  14. I'm sure we'll soon find out that Tina, Katy, Andy and Luke have all been living just around the corner and are having a few рroblems with their new landlord Рat Рhelan! :)

  15. Liz and Jim's first appearance seen just now on classic Corrie :)

This idea, if true, is revolting. Blatantly creeping American-soap-style indeed. I've always enjoyed the naturalness of Corrie's stories and also the general look of the cast members. The increase of wacky stories, violence and a heavy hand with many of the women's make-up and hair of late may draw in the twitter-wits, but go too far and the show will be Corrie in name only.
Some improvements don't ruin the heart of the show, like successful camera experimentation, the Street garden, new shops & restos (not so much the 'insert ad here' ones). Even issue stories are well done, though too many, too fast is making them lose their heart. And that's the key word - heart. Keep the magic please!

  17. Every time I think the producer and writers couldn't get more stupid - - - they DO!

  18. 17 comments up to now and not one even showing the slightest positivity for this storyline. Please Corrie, listen to the voices on your viewing public and abandon this before it's even begun

  19. It looks like happening, as the scenes have already started to be filmed. It's Jim McDonald's return story and he's had a DNA test to prove things, so he has.

  20. Well if the script writers can change things at very short notice, like when they had to get rid of Todd, they could do so here. I'm sure they won't though.

  21. This is absolutely ridiculous. I am beyond lost for words. Beverley Callard must surely be against it. If its just a trick to get Jim back on the street then it really isnt worth it!!!!- Micky

  22. I'd rather they bring Andy back than go down this road. I'm no expert, but surely Katie would've been pronounced dead at birth? How are they gonna get round this? This may be a step too far and all credibility may be now lost
