Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 11th June

I guess when Jenny married Johnny and promised for better or worse, it didn't include her stepson killing himself and her hubby taking it out on her. Johnny is very stressed about going to view Aidan's body, and when Jenny spills coffee on the suit for the funeral, he calls her a liability and goes to the Chapel of Rest without her. Liz goes with him instead, which Jenny witnesses, obviously. Rita brings round some chocs to Jenny, suggesting Johnny might want one, "I bet he's partial to a soft centre," she says. I'd call Liz a hard nut, personally. Liz gives Jonny a reassuring cuddle and they share an intimate-awkward moment and later, drunk and angry, he returns for a rematch and they have another hug, which this time does turn into a snog, but Mrs Mac turfs him out before it goes any further.

Simon is revising in the kitchen (because he doesn't have a bedroom?) but nonetheless reckons he's aced his exam, until Summer points out the Treaty of Versailles did not take place in 1947. Simon is persuaded to take Susie out for a walk where he bumps into the bad lads and they smoke over the pram - until Eva catches them and marches the baby away. I think if I had been coaxed into carrying and giving birth to a child that I then illegally passed to my step-half-sister, I'd probably move out of the flat that I share with the sister, given that it might be a little hard to see said baby being brought up by someone else. But that's just me! Anyway, Eva lectures Peter on his thirty-a-day habit being a bad example to Simon, although she later apologises and ends up crying over the baby.

The Nazirs are having a summit re: Imran's discovery of Aidan's will. As the Connors are Adam's clients, I'm looking forward to a game of Solicitor vs Solicitor: waistcoats at dawn. Alya ambushes Johnny, Jenny and Carla, and reveals that she knows she is the rightful owner of the factory. Johnny points out that they have to honour Aidan's wishes, and is angry when he discovers that the womenfolk want to claim Aidan wasn't in his sound mind when he wrote the will. He bans Jenny from the funeral and threatens to disown Carla if she contests the will.

Unfortunately, Ryan#3 is not going back to Ibiza. Is it just me or does Ryan become more irritating with every incarnation? Meanwhile, his "brother" apologises to his step-dad for not believing he was the right man for Queen 'Chelle Of The Cobbles. This is enough for Robert to invite Ali to move out of halls and into the Preston-Connor residence for some more brotherly love or possibly fratricide (I hope they get bunk-beds). By the way, was it Audrey who cut Robert's hair? There's a big chunk missing just above the ear.

Nicola persuades Eileen to come to Bristol with her. I do hate this recurring storyline where an established character threatens to move away but us viewers, the ones who keep an eye on the Who's Leaving page, know it's all baloney. We know Eileen aint going nowhere, or at least not for very long.

And finally, the dad of Olivia (Rosie's model chum) asks Sally to look over his application for her mayoralty fund. New storyline/character? Not another con-man I hope.

  1. I don't know much about family law, but surely there's room for compromise with the Faktri? Alya should get the 18% share that Aidan had when he wrote the will.
