Why new girl Emma's a breath of fresh air on Coronation Street

I am loving new girl Emma on Coronation Street. Now, more than ever, we really do need a bit of lightness in the show to balance the unbelievably sad storyline this week of Aidan passing away.

Emma is like a breath of fresh air on the show. She's fun, she's cheeky, she's vulnerable too.  There's something about her, as played to perfection by Alexandra Mardell, that reminds me of old-fashioned, classic Corrie. She brings back memories of the likes of young girls about town, Maxine Peacock and Fiona Middleton.

It looks like a reunion is on the cards for David and Shona - and rightly so.  I guess this means Emma will be dumped and looking for a new place to live.  Please let her stay on the Street, she's great.

Does anyone else really like the character too?

  1. Bring Back Todd/Bruno ...11 May 2018 at 10:11

I prefer Emma to Gemma. I'm sorry, but I cannot forget people's past histories very easily (yes, I know it only telly but still...), which is why I cannot take to Gemma. But Emma, as far as we know, is a decent girl, so she's OK in my book.

The same thing applies to Shona, I really can't take to her knowing what her son did (yes, I know it's not her fault, but she still gave birth to a murderer). However, having said that, even though I don't like Shona romantically linked to David, I'm glad that someone has his back. No-one else seems to.

  2. Yes! I like the freshness and innocence of Emma. No back story, and if she stays may it remain so.

  3. I think she should get together with Chesney. She might lighten him up a bit and she would be good for Joseph.

  4. Her spunk reminds me a bit of Natasha Blakeman when she first arrived.

  5. Yes she’s definitely a keeper (just not with David, obviously). Loved her comments to Audrey “I’m finding you a bit negative Audrey, just saying”. And those court shoes 😆

I also hope they keep her.Anonymous at 14:05 has the right idea, Chesney should be with someone who has a spark. I'd think it would be Gemma but the baggage from her storyline with Callum just makes me see her as basically untrustworthy.Emma on the other hand seems like a sweet girl.

    1. I’m sorry but not Chesney. Little kid Chesney was a delightful ray of sunshine, but put a hood and robe on adult Chesney and you’d have yourself a dementor. Emma does not deserve to have the soul sucked out of her.
