Richard Hawley, who plays Johnny Connor in Coronation Street, was interviewed on ITV's Lorraine this morning, talking about Aidan Connor's suicide story in the show.
Richard said that he thought the soap's storyline is helping to 'shine a light' on a subject that is often overlooked by society.
He said: "I think Shayne played the whole thing beautifully really."
And he went on to talk about his own, personal connections to a stoyline such as this and how important it was to get it right. He was incredibly upset as he spoke, as you might imagine, but pointed out how important it is for this subject to be talked about.

I know Corrie has come under fire for being too dark lately, but I did feel last night's was classic Corrie at it's best. Ever since the Phelan storyline has been on hold, things have really improved. Both Richard Hawley and Cath Tyldesley knocked it out of the park last night. Well done Corrie! Makes me sorry to see Kate Oates go...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and touching interview with Richard Hawley. I loved what he said about how we all have a male and female side to us, which is to say men can let their feelings out too. He was a good model for that too when he showed his emotions as he spoke of his experiences.
