A Tribute to our Blogger, our Friend Diane

Diane Williams, my friend and blog co-editor, has died.  I am in shock that she has gone, far too soon.

Diane was nicknamed Tvor which stood for The Voice of Reason - and for good reason too. With her guidance and support, she helped me run both this blog and corrie.net. She calmed me when I sent her infuriating emails about people nicking our work. She guided me when I wanted to give up the blog because my love for the show was on the wane. She offered me help and support, never criticism.

She was a Coronation Street fan through and through, a leading light in the online community. She could spot a Corrie spoiler a mile off, always ahead of the curve, guessing correctly what was to come in the show. And her insight went into her weekly blog posts here, the always well-received Corrie weekly awards.

In Canada where she lived, Diane helped run a Coronation Street fan club called The Downeast Streeters where she arranged for the cast of the show to fly out to Canada for appearances.  Here she is with Marc Baylis, who played Rob Donovan in the show.

In 2015 Diane married a lovely man called Graham who moved from his beloved Salford to Canada after they were wed. Graham is a massive Dr Who fan and their wedding involved a fan mash-up of Corrie and Dr Who.

My heart goes out to Diane's husband and her family in Canada, to her friends there and here in the UK and to all those who knew her online.

The Coronation Street fan community around the world has lost one of its best.

  1. For a long time Diane has also been involved in the CorrieDays update recording each episode, in recent times writing both Monday episodes and arranging to post a record of the second Wednesday episode. I know she has also supported the Conversation Street podcast with contributions nearly every week.

Diane - thank you for all of your efforts. You will be much missed.

  3. I am in absolute shock, and heartbroken. I used to look forward to Tvor’s feedback every week on our podcast - it seems so unbelievable we’ll never hear from her again. Her insights, knowledge of the show, and her unerring ability to navigate the world of soap logic added so much to our podcast and I know the listeners enjoyed her comments as much as we did. She had such a generosity of spirit in spending so much time helping other fans. This is such a loss for us all. What utterly tragic news.

  10. I am deeply shocked at this news. Diane was a lovely lady, and truly the voice of reason. Her reactions to Corrie-related controversy were always measured and good natured. I always loved reading her gentle, fair-minded take on a given topic. Every so often, we have to face the loss of one of our on-screen Corrie favourites, but rarely one of our own, as it were. My deepest sympathies with her family and with you too, Glenda.

My fav moment from that time was from sir Ian, those that don't know was a lad from Scotland, I made a montage of our voices set to bagpipes was an audio clip. rIan died and Diane after a bit of waiting said he hated bagpipes. It was just a great moment ya had to be there. Fly well Diane!

  25. What a terrible shock. I'll never get used to loved ones around me dying, and even though I never met Diane, she easily fits the description. Condolences to you Glenda and Diane's Graham and her family and friends.

I first read Tvor's thoughts on Coronation Street Guestbook, the old Canadian one. I had just started watching the show in the early 90's and have been enjoying her wit, humour and love of all things Corrie ever since. I always thought she knew the writers, the way she could suss out twists on the show.

A great loss to so many people. Way too soon. Hugs.

  31. Diane's passing will have a massive impact on our enjoyment of Coronation Street. I checked the Bluenose Corrie Blogger constantly since it matched the episodes airing in Canada; she was always so careful to flag spoilers. She was an irreplaceable treasure.

  32. I am so shocked and saddened by this news. My sincerest condolences to Diane's husband Graham, her family and friends.

I have followed Diane aka TVOR for decades. Like Adrian mentioned above, she helped and encouraged me to participate in the early internet chat room that was devoted to Corrie fans. I was sparqui on that and other late 90s forums devoted to Corrie, including CSVU and the Guestbook. It was such an amazing community and Diane was one of the pillars that set it up and supported it throughout the years. I loved reading her blog and contributions to this site. She was the connective tissue of my past corrie fandom to my present. I am so very, very sad that she is gone.
