Joanna Lumley back on Coronation Street - Yay or Nay?
Joanna Lumley has never made secret of the fact that she loved her stint working on Coronation Street as Ken Barlow's girlfriend Elaine Perkins. And just this week, interviewed on BBC's The One Show, she said once more that she felt her time on Corrie was much too short.
We can only agree.
I say bring her back, even just briefly, for a fling with King Ken.
When Stephanie Beacham was cast in the role of Ken's girlfriend Martha Fraser (the actress lady who lived on the barge), Joanna Lumley hinted at the time that she nearly returned to Coronation Street to play that role, but was too busy at the time.
What do you say - Yay or Nay?
We're a finalist!

Nay for me. I’ve never been a fan of her, and never liked anything she’s been in.
ReplyDeleteI’d rather Corrie casted new faces rather than pandering to the inflated egos of already well known actors.
One of my favourite actors, let Joanna cast her magic on Coronation Street.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm well aware that Corrie characters 'aren't real, you know', I like to suspend my disbelief in the same way as when I watch any TV drama. Perhaps I'm on my own here but I'm not interested in whether that actress is a sweetie or that one's a drunk. I certainly don't want well-known celebrities, whether or not they were previously on Corrie, to come in with an ego bigger than their character (which, in this case, it would be). Short answer, big fat 'no'.
ReplyDeleteNo. Stunt casting has rarely worked. She was an unknown last time.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes indeedy! Her time on Corrie was before I started watching, so a visit would be wonderful. Would be great if she brought a bit of an older Patsy Stone with her.
ReplyDeleteIf they're going to revive Underworld it might be a good idea to have Lumley on, perhaps as a friend and mentor from Carla's past just dropping in for a visit . We never did find out how a girl from the wrong side of the tracks-who should be a Gemma- pulled herself out of that enough to become the formidable Carla.
ReplyDeleteWith a new рroducer maybe. Although I now think all рroducers are bad and nobody can save our street. I haven't watched it in 6 months - and after reading here, I'm not missing much! So, any ideas for the next рroducer? Can anybody save our show? I vote for our own Graeme N to do it - he feels Corrie with all his soul, go Graeme!!
ReplyDeleteWhy? Given the current state of the Street Joanne Lumley would come with a sordid past, having pushed several grandmothers down the staircase, she would then reveal she has a debilitating disease or crippling addiction, perhaps is the secret mother to several current Corrie characters, then will die after setting the Rovers alight. The comedic timing she is famous would go to waste so best leave her alone.
