Coronation Street Episode Review; Wednesday 8 Nov 2017 7.30pm

Welcome to another Wednesday double of Weatherfield drama!

Tonight's first episode appears to insinuate a return of a character unseen for some time on the street; Mad Mary!!. I have recently enjoyed her recitals of Morrissey songs, anecdotes of 'Mother' and her happiness of finding her long-lost son. However, her grandmother status is causing  Mary to return to Mad Mary of old, albeit her heart being in the right place. Mary's 'mother in law from hell' act is causing serious concern for a rather stressed and shattered Angie. Unduly tarnished as an alcoholic, it appears Angie may actually have Post Natal Depression. With support from her new confidante Toyah,  Angie heads out to the bistro for a drink and baby George is left with Jude.

As Jude heads to a job interview, the little fella is left with Mary, will her manic maternal instinct cause strife?.
Paternal matters are also still rife with fathers Billy & Todd. As Summer also appears to be distressed, Todd's latest distractions aren't helping matters. The 'Barlow Solicitor's' boys continue to feud with the Connors, and in particular, a homeless Aidan. Spotting him squatting at the derelict roofless factory, Todd overhears that Aidan and Ayla have a business meeting at The Bistro and a plan is hatched. As Aidan has no roof over his head (literally), how will he get a loan?. He could always ask his Johnny, as Mathew Singh offers a buy for the factory. Will the squatting scupper the deal?.
Meanwhile, Aidan's meeting is almost a disaster until Yasmeen lets him crash at number 6, his irksome arrogance re-emerges when approaching Tyrone to buy his van.  Will Ty sell the van that he purchased with the factory crowdfunding cash?.  It looks unlikely, as the newly named 'Delilah'  proves useful when Chez needs a second-hand washing machine delivering, and sharpish. Has Tyrone found a new business venture?.

The washing machine saga also causes another storyline to re-emerge. Sinead struggles with the latest batch of wet washing (no laundrette on Tile Street?) and bumps into Daniel Barlow, who innocently offers assistance. Seizing an opportunity though, it isn't long before Sinead, Daniel, and Joseph are down the park. Reviving a recently mute Joseph with some basic Portuguese, it isn't long before Sinead goes all doe-eyed again at dashing Daniel. Will she marry Chez in the end?. It remains to be seen, especially as Tyrone and Chez head down Tile Street to pick up the second-hand washing machine, Chesney spies his love rival with his son. Has Chez misread the situation?.

Which leads us back to Mary.

Perceiving her grandson to have a raging temperature, she races over to the bistro to inform Angie. Is Angie too drunk to drive to the hospital or has Mary made a huge mistake?. However it goes, I think our Mary is largely becoming a Corrie legend!.

Follow my pal @Glenn_Writes  as he reviews tonight's 8.30pm episode.

PS - I love my drama but I don't find any! in watching football.

Can we hope for 8 episodes next week?!

Speak then.

  1. Surprising that Yasmeen would have such compassion for Aiden "the Cheater" Connor.

  2. It's amazing how quickly you can go off characters. First Billy, now Mary.

  3. I never warmed to Billy, something not quite right with his character. Too inconsistent.

  4. Also, I think we warm to people who are authentic and kind and start to dislike someone who is being thoroughly blind and unpleasant, i.e. Mary. Also she is too rigid in her thinking at times.

  5. And due to the fact writers don't seem to consider the characters actual character! They just write whatever they want, for whomever. We viewers no longer have the pleasure of knowing exactly how our fave character will react or handle an issue. Inconsistent.

  6. I never warmed to Mary, although recently there had been a thaw. Now solidly refrozen, and that means do not touch, it’s ruined. Nothing short of showing us she’s in therapy is going to fix this. Shame about Billy, though, this thug past percolating up. If he had slapped Sean around or kicked a dog, maybe we’d see a pattern, but punching out a neighbor he had known for years, nope. Totally agree with Anon 11:24, we are seeing fewer consistent characters with known personalities, and more plot pawns.

  7. I wonder why is Adam and Todd still going after Aidan?
With Eva's help ,Adam has already destroyed the factory so why continue the vendetta? As for Todd if he and Billy aren't careful, they will lose Summer.
I still believe in Mary and gone off Jude.
Granted she may be over the top but Mary also knows that something is wrong with Angie who's lying to her husband and one of these days.I bet something will happen to little George and it will be Angie's fault not Mary's.
    Enough of doom and gloom!

  8. The Mary/Angie storyline is very uncomfortable to watch as I've been in Angie's shoes. Those wounds never properly heal, the things that are said and done can't be unsaid or undone. I was starting to warm to Mary, but that's gone - it's too close to home.
