Rob Mallard signs to Corrie for another year

Good news for fans of Rob Mallard, who plays Coronation Street's Daniel Osbourne.  Rob has signed up to Coronation Street for another year.

Speaking to The Sun Online, Rob said: "Well I've just signed my second year so as far as it comes for the next year or so I think I'm quite safe for now but who knows at the end of that?"

And he also said that his character Daniel might get back together with Sinead, even though she's now engaged to Chesney.

He said: "Yeah - absolutely there's a way back because the only reason she isn't still with Daniel is because when they first got together the drama erupted with the Barlows that she obviously got pulled into. Aside from that they had everything going for them. They were both a little bit left of centre, not really part of any crowd - they didn't have an in-group, they found an in-group with each other, and I think they will always have that."

I'm really pleased Rob is staying on the Street. Daniel is a complex, troubled young man, proving that he's more, much more, than his dad Ken's mini-me.  And I really would like to see his mum Denise Osbourne return too.

  1. He's good. And yes, let's have Denise back. One week wasn't nearly long enough!

  4. I agree! Daniel is not well in the head.

  5. Daniel is a character who has had a very tough life and is dealing with the fall out and trauma by self-harming. I hope we see him finding help and treatment, starting by confiding in Ken. He's having to deal with a mental illness like many of us in real life. I know it's just a soap but I find the actor's portrayl of self-harming done in a respectable way.

  6. Now that the show is certain of having some time on its hands I hope Daniel really gets some therapy.
I get that the actor wants to leave the door open for anything, but the reason Sinead and Daniel aren't together is that she found out he'd tried to kill his father and let everyone get suspected including her.Not exactly a minor hurdle if this was the real life.Still, I'd sooner see him stuck with her than Chesney after all that happened.

  7. Not a Daniel fan I have to say, so this isn't good news for me. I really don't like the way he is always sniffing around Sinead (which seems highly ridiculous as in reality, I'm pretty sure someone like Daniel wouldn't give her the time of day). Intelligent people do not gravitate towards dummies.

  8. I'm a fan so I'm glad to hear this. I hope they do more than just float him around Sinead over and over, though. Do more with the journalism perhaps, going down the road of his father, who managed a newspaper for awhile. YEs, also agree that he needs councilling and we should see that happening.

Derelict, you say intelligent people do not gravitate towards dummies. Bluntly put ;) But Daniel is Ken's son and that's been Ken's modus operandi for years. All of his wives have been less intelligent than he and he seems to prefer it that way. Why didn't he go off with Martha on the houseboat? I think partly because she was his equal and he wasn't dealing with that. Also, he just doesn't like change! Ken always did seem to like to be around women that were less educated than he, I think because he felt better about himself that way. Not surprised Daniel has the same leanings.

  9. Can't stand what's become of Sinead. When she first arrived, she made Katy look like a wast of space. Sinead was creative in her dress and outlook, spirited and thoughtful, a DIY artisan who made and sold candles, soap, and corsets of her own design (custom corsets are notoriously high-end, difficult to make, and extremely expensive!) It bothers me to hear a character of that potential referred to as a dummy. She should have been another Angie Freeman. Hopefully she still can be.

  10. Anon 16.33, Sinead might have had potential at one time, but that was long ago and now she's just gormless and has nothing about her at all.
