Phil Wheeler, jewellery dealer returning to Coronation Street?

Irish actor Simon Delaney, who played "charming jewellery salesman" Phil Wheeler in Coronation Street, has hinted that he will reprise his role on the show.

RTE reports that the actor, who rose to fame on RTÉ drama Bachelor's Walk and currently co-hosts Ireland AM on TV3, first dropped into Weatherfield last summer to flog his sparkling wares and treat himself to a pint in the Rovers Return.

He was a hit with viewers and there has since been rumours that he will make a more permanent return to the show when he sets up his own jewellery stall in a local market.

Speaking to the Irish Sun on Sunday, Delaney said: "There is now talk of Phil coming back but I have no idea if it would be for six weeks or six months.

"The feedback was great, the guy was even trending. I know the producers and the writers take notice of things like that so we will have to see how it goes. To play a character like that was brilliant, so I’d love to do it again."

  1. It would be welcome change to have a new business around but all he did was sell jewelry, not make it, so how much interaction there would be between him and the residents who mostly seem to have little cash to spare on luxuries is what puzzles me.

  2. Why? Aren't there enough characters already who don't get anything to do?
