Welcome to another Wednesday Weatherfield review.
At the start of tonight's episode, Gemma AKA 'little miss sunshine' is in huge demand and in high spirits. She's looking forward to spending time with her best pal Chesney, but as Rita may have failed to mention Jenny's bridesmaid dress fitting, Gemma's day doesnt go to plan. Heading over to Jenny's posh bash, Gemma is bemused by her dress (it's not a 'bingo top') and Kate's 'Bolero' dress is the exact colour of Kevin Webster's legendary purple jacket!. The celebrations are suddenly interrupted when Rita accidentally spills coffee on Gemma's shoes. As Gemma takes the blame, Rita returns home to make dinner for her long deceased Husband, Len. Is this the start of a steady decline for Rita?
Meanwhile, after a touching and emotional heart-to-heart with Nicola over the 'flat scam', Phelan returns to Andy in the cellar. Within a 'flick of a switch', Phelan's psycholigical demure completely changes and he's back to taunting Andy. A darkly delivered soliloquy delves deeper into his pysche and Andy, seizing an opportunity, resorts to flattery to try and appease his opponent. Phelan however, is disgruntled and briskly exits the cellar. We then see him digging a 'grave'. Will Phelan take the ultimate step to regain control?.
As Gemma's (literal) spirits are sunk over a drink with Rosie, 'little miss sunshine' ends the day defeated. We can all reel at the possibility of a seriously declining (and potentially senile) Rita.
The #SaveRita twitter campaign has begun in earnest and I will also be 'flying the flag' to keep 'The Kabin' stalwart, on the cobbles!

I was disgusted that Jenny could not see beyond her own nose to help Gemma. She was trying to get help for Rita! I love the friendship Gemma is developing with Rosie. I think Rosie could be the friend and example that Gemma needs - and I think it will do Rosie the world of good too!
ReplyDeleteWell said. I too was disgusted at Jenny's rudeness, not giving Gemma a chance to explain. I've also loved Rosie's interaction with Gemma. She really played a blinder with the shanks!
ReplyDeleteSkanks, of course. Blame auto-correct.
ReplyDeleteAnother one who is loving the interaction between Gemma and Rosie. I hope we see more!

ReplyDeleteFarewell Rita, you played a blinder!xoxo
