Shock storyline for Gary Windass this summer

Last week, here on the Coronation Street Blog, we posted a spoiler asking whether Gary Windass was thinking of leaving Weatherfield.  You can find out more here.

Well, today we can reveal more.

In this week's Inside Soap magazine out today, they have a Q&A with Mikey North, who plays Gary. Answering questions sent in to the magazine by fans, Mikey says this about Gary's future in Coronation Street.

"Without giving too much away, there is some stuff between Gary and Phelan, so just watch this space! I think there's unfinished business between them and Connor McIntyre, who plays Phelan is such a good actor and always nice to work with . I hope one day we'll lock horns again."

So far, so good. But then he also says this:

"Gary has got a lot coming up. He's going to take the private security job in the Ukraine, which will come between him and his family as it's so dangerous. In fact, I think it's just as high-risk as being in the Army, and it will change Gary's world forever..."

Oh no. I don't like the sound of this one little bit.

  1. A security job in the Ukraine? Well that sure sounds like he's leaving. That's a shame if it's true.

  2. Oh no! If there is more agro between Gary and Phelan, and Gary ends up going to the Ukraine, that must mean that Phelan wins AGAIN!

  3. There are quite a few actors leaving within the year. Connor McIntyre might be one of them but I guess they would keep that under wraps. Anna needs an exit story. In her desperation over Kevin's affair, she might flip and try to kill Phelan. She fails but dies in the attempt. Gary successfully avenges his mother's death and flees to the Ukraine. Perhaps he has been dithering about leaving Weatherfield up to that point.

  4. I wonder if Izzy and their son Jake[who seems to be forgotten]will go with them?
I am not looking forward to Sarah somehow making it about her either{although I bet within a week of Gary's exit she'll have a new boyfriend.]!

    1. Why would Izzy go? They're no longer in a relationship and haven't been for a while. Ex partners do not follow their exes due to work

  5. In my humble opinion I think the actor wants out. For the past while he has little more than a speaking extra, comforting and supporting Sarah. I don't blame Mikey at all for wanting to spread his wings. He is a good actor and deserves much better storylines than he has been given on Corrie. If he leaves I wish him well.

  6. I wish they'd bring back Eddie Windass; he was quite a character.

  7. They're talking about a new job, the risks of the job, and how it's just as risky as the army and that there's a lot coming up for Gary.
That sounds a lot to me like Gary's going to meet with some accident....I sure hope I'm wrong, but that's my first impression of this.

  8. @Humpty Dumpty: maybe Anna tries to kill Phelan and he somehow (as he has in the past) turns the tide and kills her?

@ Anonymous on Izzy: maybe the actress' medical problems have gotten to the point that she can't continue to act?

  9. Linda: I agree re Eddie Windass. He was a dead loss semi criminal at first, then I loved it when he turned out to be an expert baker and won round all the neighbours with his cakes.

  10. What are we like, eh? So we seem to have collectively decided that Mikey North is quitting the show because of a lack of decent storylines based on an interview in which he says he's got a lot of meaty storylines coming up. Not only that, but we've also decided Izzy is also leaving on health grounds, despite her not even being mentioned in the piece! Don't think I'm sneering - I'm not. I'm celebrating our collective fan-imagination, an indicator of how invested we become in these characters, even if it sometimes gets a tad overheated. But long may it continue!

  11. @Cobblestone, none of us have decided anything, we're just speculating. Having a bit of what-if game.
