Time then, to take a more light-hearted look at 5 things we learned in Corrie this week.
Nick's a wet drip
The dictionary definition of quicksand is this: loose wet sand that yields easily to pressure and sucks in anything resting on or falling in. Sound familiar? It's perfectly describes Nick. He can't even get ill properly. When Leanne told Peter that Nick had suffered from hypothermia, Nick corrected her: "Mild hypothermia." What a wet drip he is.
Ken Barlow makes passes at girls who wear glasses
What the return of Denise Osbourne might mean once things calm down chez Barlow remain to be seen. Will she and Ken rekindle their romance? Who knows? But one thing's for sure, with those specs, Denise brought the spirit of Deirdre's glasses back to the show.
Craig's a Hunchy Cop
"There are two types of cops," Kirk told Craig over a cuppa in Roy's Rolls. "Hunchy cops or legwork cops." It turns out that as well as being a right little star, Craig's a hunchy cop too.
Peter's still at AA
After saving Nick's life when he was stuck in the quicksand, Peter told Leanne: "Think I'll get myself to a meeting". Can't say I blame him, it really must have knocked him for six having to save the life of his nemesis Nick. It was a reminder that Peter is still battling his drink demons and continues to need the support of the Alcoholic Anonymous meetings. On which note, have a look back at one of Corrie's best ever scenes (with apologies to overseas viewers who may be unable to view it, but that's due to ITV and licensing I believe).
Dead magpies are lucky after all
Cathy finally got her man, giving him a full-on frontal snog. I loved her wrap-around leg move too! To see just one magpie would be traditionally unlucky - one for sorrow, two for joy - but it seemed to bring luck for Cathy and Brian.

Cathy and Brian are all wrong....smells of desperation. Who in the world would be so attracted to a man like Brian with all his crass ways, that she would have to blow down her top garment?!! Aaagghh
ReplyDeleteSorry, Flaming Nora, the wrap around leg move you may have loved, I am quite repulsed by it :) I'm kinda getting the feeling I am not attracted to men like Brian! Love this latest blog of yours....
I too truly dislike Brian. Thought Julie was well out of his league and Cathy can do better. I really didn't want his return. The actor played pretty much the same type of character in Cold Feet last year too. A pompous idiot. He plays that really well
ReplyDeleteThe actor, Peter Gunn, is superb but Brian is a boor, an idiot, greedy, selfish and there's no charm at all to his character and that's down to the writers. I wonder if the powers that be are trying to make them into the new Mavis and Derek because Derek was a pompous boor, too, but Derek had a bit of vulnerability of a perennial loser to him so you could dislike Derek Wilton but also feel some sympathy for him too. And there, again, actor Peter Baldwin was fabulous in the part.
ReplyDeleteBrian is being played very superficially, like an annoying teacher in a children's TV series. Genuinely, he'd be great at that but as star-crossed lovers and all that, creepy. I understand that Cathy is the sort of person who gets hot and bothered, but it's rather over-done. It's down to the directing as well as the writing. Someone needs to tell them to bring it down a notch.
ReplyDeleteThese comments about Brian have made me think about Phelan. One reason he is such a wonderful character (whom we all love to hate) is because the actor does NOT play him superficially, but is full of nuances. He does a brilliant job!
ReplyDeleteThat's true, talent goes a long way to making a character tolerable. I kept rooting for Leanne even in her worst times because Damson is so talented.
DeleteOne thing we learned this week is that Nick is NOT going to leave the show by drowning in quicksand. So now the question is, how does he leave the show?
ReplyDeletejust walks right out with a sulky face, same old nick, nothing new there
DeleteIn his car. With his passport. Without telling Leanne.
DeleteWhatever that feed was, it works overseas. :D
ReplyDeleteBesides Leanne, Nick also didn't say goodbye to David, Simon or Audrey, or his business partner who he has just left in the lurch. Not Corrie's greatest ever exit.
Brian needs to be back in a classroom. It's a step down from head teacher but working with little ones suits him better than this nonsense environmental job. With the right job, maybe he'd be less of a boor.
