Coronation Street Spoiler: Ken Protects His Attacker

Ken is going to call a family meeting in next week’s Coronation Street. He tells the Barlow clan the truth about what happened on the night of his attack – and goes on to say that none of them are blameless.

But Ken’s got evidence of who pushed him down the stairs and he wants to protect them. He decides that the evidence needs to be destroyed and convinces the attacked to burn the evidence.

Also next week at the Barlows, Sinead tells Daniel it’s over and then makes a shocking discovery about Daniel’s family!

  1. Is no one going to get in trouble after this storyline!?!

  2. Of course, Ken won't let his golden boy get in trouble. However, I can't believe he's telling the others they aren't blameless. In what way did they contribute to Daniel behaving like this and where's his mother?

  3. Yes, I really think Ken is losing the plot. Daniel is obviously a psycho and should be punished. This whole storyline has turned out to be a very damp squib.

  4. When he says 'none of them are blameless', does Ken include himself? What strikes me about Daniel is not that he suffers from Barlow clan anger, it's that he showed no remorse until he was found out. Peter and Tracy have a long-standing relationship with their father so it's understandable they would feel guilty after a run-in, but even Adam has shown a self-awareness beneath his bravado. Daniel is more than 'damaged'; he will probably turn out to have serious mental health issues.

  5. Which is going to give Adam a big reason to further resent Ken who was willing to have him arrested but not Danniel.

  6. Jeanie (anon): I think this story line and its resolution has been pretty good; and it's nice that it is a family member with some psychological justifications, as opposed to random and startling acts of violence (Kylie and Tina). Here it is very clearly a case of chickens coming home to roost as Ken's negligent, self-serving, and complacent (oh look, the son I did nothing to help raise or support is accepted at Oxford! I'm so filled with pride; he's just like me at that age!) behaviour catches up to him.

As to the other comments: Daniel clearly showed remorse and guilt when we saw him talking with Ken in the flat--he was beside himself. A few other times as well he has acted very distracted. But obviously he is good at compartmentalizing emotions--that's how he was able to deal with the situation with his mother.

As to no one else being blameless--I agree that sounds slightly ridiculous (did they all push Ken down the stairs?!)but I think that's just the phrasing. Ie. they're not perfect themselves and they owe him (Ken), since he has covered up THEIR misdeeds so many times. Eg. Tracy may not have had a hand in this accident, but Ken has (usually) supported her in the aftermath of her many criminal actions. Peter, again, has a long list of deplorable behaviour towards his own son, including nearly killing him in the house fire when he was drunk. As for Adam--well he left the man he has known from a child on the ground to die and walked away because he was angry. In some ways his actions were almost more shocking than Daniel's since he has no excuse and Ken has done so much for him, including spending a year nursing him back to health. Adam has had all the advantages, including doting father and grandfather fighting for his attention. To walk away like that and leave his grandfather there to die approaches the action of a true psychopath (no empathy, cold-blooded).

  7. You say all that, but at the end of the day I much prefer Adam to Daniel.

  8. jeanie (anon): They're both really entertaining, as actors and characters, much more so than the likes of steve, toyah, nick, leanne, peter endlessly rehashing various baby sagas or robert and michelle, or Kevin, Anna, and (gulp) Erica. But as to preferring one over the other--I can't say I'd want any female relative of mine dating either! Luke and Freddy are the only two guys on the street who wouldn't set off alarm bells.

  9. What has struck me about the Bethany grooming storyline is how, by juxtaposition, the gents on the Street look relatively normal. Even Rob, an escaped felon, was a guy you'd trust with your adolescent daughter compared to Nathan. Strange.

  10. I am disappointed that the storyline ended this way.
After critising Deirde for the way she defended Tracy through the years for her crimes and even went along with Tracy's lie that Becky pushed her down a flight of stairs causing Tracy to miscarry Steve's twins,Ken is no better if not worse if he was willing to see his grandson Adan go to jail in favour of 'golden boy'Daniel.

So, it's true then. Ken really does despise Adam because he is Mike's son. I might have left him as well...Ken thought he was guilty the first time, and he thought he was guilty the second time. Nope, the nutter son did it.
