Is Coronation Street killer Rob Donovan returning?

Is Corrie killer Rob Donovan returning to the show?

That's what we're wondering after actor Marc Baylis, who played Rob Donovan, was pictured arriving at ITV this week. The Mirror have the pictures here.

Rob, you'll remember, clubbed Tina McIntyre to death with a metal pole after she fell from the balcony of her flat onto the cobbles.

Then in the autumn of 2015 Rob returned to Corrie, but just in scenes shot in prison where he was serving his 25 years for Tina's murder. He tried to blackmail Jonny Connor about being Carla's real dad.

So, if Marc is reprising his role as Rob Donovan, could it be that we could see him again in prison scenes like before, I wonder?

  1. I hope not. I liked Rob but killing Tina was just unforgiveable.

  2. It would surely have to be in prison, unless they are planning a similar thing to when Tracy got out of prison. And apart from Tracy, would he have any reason to return now Carla's gone?

Whichever though, it's a yes from me!

  3. And he made it pretty clear he wanted nothing to do with Tracy after she gave him up to the cops. Too bad, since I really enjoyed their relationship.

  4. @ Maricha - I don't know...ridding the cobbles of Tina's character deserves an award in my opinion, not a prison sentence, lol

    1. I was starting to dislike her too but Tina's murder was so gratuitous.
I haven't got a leg to stand on since I wasn't all that concerned when Tracy killed Charlie, but there it is: Rob should stay in jail or at least stay away.

  5. Hope this is true. I've always liked Rob and Tracy together, far more suited than Luke and Tracy. Maybe now that Nick's leaving they needed someone to feud with Peter. I could see Rob and Adam teaming up to cause trouble

  6. Excellent news. Hope it's true. It was a mistake to have his character murder Tina, and his subsequent exit. He was the best partner for Tracy. True love and understanding of eachothers dark sides. This would be the best decision Kate Oates makes, imho.

  7. I too would love for Rob to come back. He and Tracy made a great partnership, much better than Tracy and Luke. Where is Luke, by the way?

  8. The big clue is that he's a wearing a big blue ITV Studios Coronation Street puffa jacket in the pictures where he's being shielding from the cameras.

  9. I always see the Corrie actors wearing the red puffy jackets -- could the blue jacket be a sign he is working on a different ITV show? (Honest question, I'm from Canada and I don't know if that location is for Corrie filming only, or do they shoot other stuff there too?)
This article will prob be removed before anyone can add/reply to my comment, darn!

    1. I don't know for sure but I recently saw the actors outdoors in blue puffy jackets (for the Cathy/Roy wedding, I think) so maybe they have both colors.

  10. Thanks for your reply Maricha.
I guess we will have to wait and see. It is a shame that he was spotted by photographers (unwanted photographers, I presume). While,I am thrilled with the idea of Rob returning - it would have been 100 times better if I never knew it was coming.

    1. That's true but at least we have no idea what sort of return it will be. All we know is that we'll see him so there still may be surprises ahead.

  11. when Tina fell off the balcony I had mixed feelings. By that stage, Rob had become one of my favourite characters and he and Tracy, my favourite couple. So I was deflated that he was the "killer" but still hopeful that it wasn't the end of his run as it was more of an accident than a cold blooded murder. That all changed of course with the "twist in the tale" when he bludgeoned to death a still-living Tina. I experienced all the shock and awe of the moment, but have felt ever since that it was wanton destruction of an excellent character for the sake of short term ratings.

I get the feeling that TPTB have had similar regrets ever since. Which is why they brought him back for a few episodes in 2015. How you'd redeem him more permanently is beyond me though. He confessed so can hardly be in line for a miscarriage of justice reprieve a la Tracy.
