David and Maria to get together - Yay or Nay?

I loved the storyline which started on Friday night with Gail thinking that David and Maria might be an item.

"Mum thinks you're sending out all the right signals," said David, to which Maria replied: "That's not me, it's my security tag."

So do we think that these two might actually make a good couple and get together one day on Coronation Street?  They're both single parents, they both have young children, they work together, they've known each other for years. They could make it work - if they wanted it to.

But should they, I wonder?

What do you think - David and Maria as a couple, Yay or Nay?

  1. They absolutely would work and it would make perfect sense - but where's the drama in that 😊

  2. I don't personally think that they should be a couple, I think Maria and Aidan work better and I think the attraction comes from the fact that Aidan is Liam's cousin and I don't think Maria has really had any chemistry with anyone since he died.

I think it's interesting story wise because this current story parallels the Carla and Liam affair where now Maria is in Carla's position and Eva is in what Maria's position was.

  3. What makes Maria and David work is their shared sense of humour. It would make such a change to see a young couple having fun. The actors/characters have a chemistry that I think is missing between Aiden and Maria. It would be very authentic for Maria and David to jog along happily as mates, then finding a romantic spark and being almost embarrassed by it. It could also bring Kirk and Beth back into the fold as the two couples would make a great foursome on nights out.

    1. It's a yes from me too and for the same reasons.

  4. I think they will pretend to be a couple for a while, then realise that they actually do like each other. Maybe Aiden will cause trouble - he'll be the jealous one instead. I think they would be a good match.

  5. A resounding YES! Please maintain a younger relationship on the street that doesn't have any hidden secrets. ..just one.

  6. Yay!!! I'm tired of the affairs/betrayal of trust and the sneaking around. David and Maria would be a breath of fresh air for fans. It's the most unlikely couple that work fantastically. Gail and Micheal, Jack and Vera, Sally and Tim, for example.
Move Gail, Sarah and Bethany into Maria's flat so that Maria and Liam move into David's house. Then do a major interior renovation to it. So much potential 💑

  7. It would make Audrey very happy. I like Humpty Dumpty's scenario. Aiden is a lump and there's always dramatics and dark undertone with him. David and Maria can be themselves with each other, and as we saw this week, that can be kinda fun. Their kids seem to get along. I like good friendships but this has potential. Don't rush it!!!

  8. Funny that Gail is a fan of the potential pairing, but didn't think Maria was good enough for Nick. So very Gail.

My initial reaction is Maria isn't feisty enough for David. She doesn't have that spark and edge that Tina and Kylie had, despite multiple affairs, attempted vehicular manslaughter of Tony Gordon, the attempt to manipulate Tyrone by sending fake texts from his abusive ex Kirsty, etc.

To me Tracy nailed it on the head months ago when she called Maria a bunny boiler. She has impulse control issues for sure, something she has in common with David...but somehow her bad behaviour comes off more pathetic and cringeworthy than his. Maybe because David's history provides some basis/rationale for his behaviour, so I had some kernel of sympathy for him. Rather than being the result of unprocessed/dealt with trauma, Maria's poor choices are just the product of her unbridled selfishness and sense of entitlement. Maybe that's why I don't see them as similar or a good fit for each other. his character is much deeper and more complex than hers.

  9. Yay from me too. I quite like the idea of David & Maria as an item.

  10. I think they would make a great couple. It would be a nice storyline too as they have known each other for a few years, friends becoming a couple. Have them take over the salon together when Audrey decides to retire.
