Sophie recently wrote a guest blog psot for us all about Todd and Billy - you can read it here.

Today, Sophie writes about cobbles newcomer Shona.

One of the new faces on the cobbles is Shona Ramsey, played by Julia Goulding. Taken in by Billy Mayhew, the newcomer has been living at number 11 with the Grimshaws, despite Todd's warnings against her. However, in the past month or so, Shona has been seen to be proving that she isn't as bad as she may have first seemed ever since viewers saw her nab David Platt's wallet.

We saw that she shows signs of having a conscience after she looked thoughtfully at the photo of Kylie before returning David's wallet with more money than was originally in it. Once Shona had righted her wrong and been given a place to stay, next on the agenda was a job. Landing one at Roy's Rolls, it seems that she may be getting her life back on track after what seems to be years of hardship.

Not all is as it seems however as we know that Nathan, the older man currently grooming Bethany Platt, is her ex-boyfriend, or so she told Billy. Whenever it's revealed what exactly happened between the two of them is sure to be a cracking storyline, which I expect will tie in with Bethany somehow.

Shona has also caught the eye of Gemma Winter who couldn't seem to register where she'd seen Shona before. If viewers of Christmas Day 2016 cast their minds back, Shona's face dropped when Billy announced they were at Coronation Street and her first question was asking if there was a kebab shop nearby. Kylie was stabbed outside Prima Doner so is this just a coincidence or were the writers setting something up?

From what we've seen of Shona so far, she seems to be connected to David or Kylie in one way or another. Many theories have been floating around among fans. Some claim that Shona is related to Kylie, a long-lost sister for example. Other theories suggest that she is related to Clayton, Kylie's murderer. Whatever her relations, I am personally looking forward to see how Shona and David continue to behave round each other and will be looking to see how their fractious relationship develops.

Julia Goulding is doing a fabulous job with Shona and I'm really enjoying watching her so far. Obviously a character with a tragic past and many depths, I hope she remains a regular on our screens.

  1. David is right, she is weird. Why would you throw a toy rabbit in the bin and even more, why would you chuck out a child's handwritten thank you card?

Not really liking the character TBH, there are too many characters already without all these extras.

  2. Agree..too many characters with dark and shady pasts arriving to join the other dark and shady characters that are already there.

  3. Agree with anon at 12.24. Thought it ridiculous behaviour, but I'm beginning to think she has/had a child somewhere along the line

  4. Not sure yet about Shona but I don't think she can be related to Kylie. That would make her related to Becky. I'd have thought Shona would be curious about her eldest sister as she lived on Coronation Street, as well. Jack P Shepherd said David would soon have a romance so I guess it's going to be Shona.

  5. She was probably a mate of Kylie's way back in the day, which would explain why Gemma recognized her.

  6. Thank-you Sophie. I think Shona will turn out to be related to Kylie not Clayton; that would just be too much.

One thing though, it's one thing to have a mysterious character turn up but at this point, I'd like the writers to get out of that rut and have someone simply decide to come to Corrie.
If she does end up being Kylie's sister it would have been even better to have her hear about the death and come see what she could do like a normal person would. She could still recognize the creep grooming Bethany without being a pickpocket or Billy's pet project.

  7. Boring character... not in the least bit intrigued by her "mysterious" past...writers are yet again confusing 'boring', uncompelling characters with interesting characters who are going to take the story of the Cobbles somewhere...anywhere.... just not this... what a sad state this show is in... must go back to my boycott...

  8. Originally thought she might have lost a child of her own, but now, after reading the post, agree with the people who are suggesting she's related to Clayton--most likely his sister. That would explain all her guilt and discomfort and also why Gemma sort of recognizes her but not quite--she'd be more likely to remember a mate of Kylie's. The drama will be David falling for her and she him, but with eventual discovery of her secret looming over them. Also, she's already told Billy that Nathan tried to pimp her, so that's how she'll be drawn into the Bethany story--and probably first really establish her romantic connection with David, as she tries to help his niece.

  9. I don't know. I fast forward through all of her scenes. Just not at all interested or intrigued by her. I'm sorry that David might be saddled with her, as I don't want to fast forward him.

  10. Why can't David just be single for a while and then meet a nice normal girl, not someone in the same mould as Kylie.

  11. Isn't she more likely to be Judy Mallet's baby sister?? 😆

  12. I thought of Judy too, though I couldn't remember her last name!

  13. I don't care about her at all; my eyes just kind of slide right off the screen when she's on. Yawn, another sketchy young woman who gets taken under someone's wing and gradually reforms. Next.
