Ben Price Quits Coronation Street

Ben Price has announced he's leaving Coronation Street this summer! Yes, it's all over t'interwebs, folks. No more Nicky Tilsley. The story is on many websites but according to the Mirror,Ben has decided to leave the show to spend more time with his family.

“The decision to leave is purely personal – I want to be able to spend more time with my family. I have been supported by a terrific cast and crew and have had the most glorious storylines and for that I am most grateful.”

It looks likely that his exit story will involve the reveal to the Weatherfield World that Steve is the father of Leanne's baby, leading to Michelle and Steve's split. There's no word whether Nick will be killed off, blown up in an "explosive" exit or if he'll run off to Devon to cry on Carla's shoulders. (That's just me speculating!) One thing is sure, Gail will not be pleased to see the back of her oldest son. I do hope they leave the character alive so he can return in future, even if he's got a different face. We're getting used to that, with Nick!

Best of luck, Ben! It's been a very good 7 years. Love Nick or hate him, Ben Price really did make Nick his own. We'll let Executive Producer Kieran Roberts have the last word:

“We fully respect Ben’s decision to leave Coronation Street."

"As Nick he has been at the centre of some of the biggest plots of the last seven years."

"He is valued member of cast who will be greatly missed but we still have many months of great storylines with him leading to his dramatic exit later this year.”

  1. I didn't like Nick but I hope that Ben has a bright future and his character isn't senselessly killed off.

  2. Ben Price is probably a nice guy, but I never likes his character Nick. Nick was too much all for himself, regardless of other peoples feelings, I for one will not miss him. so goodbye Nick Tildsley and lots of luck to Ben Price.

  3. As if we didn't see that one coming a mile off - of course he's leaving, Michelle will be with Robert and the chances are Leanne will either return to Peter or be with Steve so they can bring up their
son together. As soon as the writers had Nick behaving like a spoiled brat, it was rather evident that he would be leaving. So no big surprise there.

  4. Never liked Nick, however he is a fine actor. Good luck to him.

  5. Nick may have acted spoiled, but Steve and Leanne have been a trainwreck for years now. I hope Nick gets to at least leave with his head held high giving a middle finger to everyone on the street who so clearly deserve it...Steve, Leanne, Peter, Gail, David, the list just keeps going.

  6. I know Ben Price wasn't fired, but I really thought Kate Oates would have "cleaned house" by now, I mean, the show could really do with a cast trim.

  7. I like Nick but his stories go nowhere and this latest is truly the worst. I wish Ben Price the best in his future.

  8. I like Nick. He is very strong willed!! Good on Ben for leaving. I will miss him. Hope he (Nick) runs off to Carla.

  9. Only one thing to say: Hurrah! Sorry, but Ben Price was always mis-cast.

  10. Let's get someone in who is actually Nick's age (35 not 45) - would be more realistic

  11. Amazed at the two comments above about liking Nick. He was a nasty, snide selfish character.

  12. Yes, if they don't kill him off - can you imagine what Gail would be like? - they should get a new actor (or maybe give Warren Jackson another go?)

  13. I think Nick is very much one of those "like to hate" characters due to Ben Price being quite good

  14. Well..his storylines have been reduced to rubbish IMO. Ben Price is a good actor but really was miscast as Nick. From the brain injury to the merry-go-round with Leanne it's just too much. Now, because he's leaving, his character will turn into something dreadful.

  15. I thought Ben Price was excellent as Nick, I'll be very sad to see him go! I really hope they don't kill him off. I too suspect that Leanne will probably go back to Peter, what with him not wanting any children with Toyah.

  16. Best wishes to Ben Price. Won't miss Nick at all, his character is tiresome.

  17. I was shocked at first, reading this, but I shouldn't be. Trying to be a dad to a child that isn't his, that is going to cause a huge explosion on the street would never have worked.
Nick's character is nasty, insecure, and rude, the brain injury thing comes and goes, he's a ticking time bomb. Not sure what Leanne sees in him at all.
I wonder if Kate Oates gave Ben the choice of leaving or being let go?

  18. That's a shame. Nick can be a total prat and his on again off again brain damage is annoying, but Ben Price is talented and Nick's an important part of this family. I really like his scenes with David. I hope they don't kill him off and let the character return with a new face.

  19. I feel sorry for Ben Price, I'm sure he realized a long time ago that they wanted him to leave because of the character that the writers were developing for Nick. Yes, he is a good actor and I'm sure he's nothing like Nick on the show. I seem to remember that Ben Price, Jack p.Shephard and Ian Paulsen-Jones had started their own production company. Perhaps that has taken off and he can concentrate on more interesting possibilities than just playing a mean, nasty character on Corrie St. All the best to him.

  20. according to the рaрer it will haррen in 'suрer-soaр week' - is that at the end of May when they do the BGT final? If it is it'll be the same time as when carla left last year, the rovers fire, Kal and whatsherface dying in victoria court fire - i can hardly wait!

  21. Perhaps Nick can take Sarah and Bethany with him back to Milan?
I won't miss Nick though as he's nothing but a spoilt momma's boy!

  22. Ben Price did the best he could and good luck to him for the future. The idea that younger Nick could fall for older Carla, enraging his mother, fell flat because they looked the same age. I wonder if the story would have gone the same way if baby-faced Adam Rickett was still playing the role. If so, one might have understood Gail's dismay. I, too, wish Sarah would leave. Bethany has potential but I can't see what Sarah can do apart from drifting from one romance to another. Let her leave with her brother.

  23. C in Canada: Kate Oates wouldn't need to give him the choice of going or being let go, the actors sign annual contracts.

  24. Shocked that some other posters think that he's a good actor. I can't think of any worse actor, certainly in a major role,in Street history.

  25. I'm not really surprised by this. The actor has always demonstrated other interests and I can't imagine he feels challenged or even interested in the go-nowhere nature of Nick.

  26. Nooooooo, I really like him! I especially like his chemistry with Jack playing David. The looks they would exchange, and the jokes that would drive Gail mad, were so natural. He fit in well with all of the Platts, even Bethany.

Leanne will not move on to Steve. Zero chemistry. I predict she'll end up with Peter, who is such a jerk. She deserves better than his cheating *ss. I also predict that the baby is really Peter's, from some quickie while visiting him with Simon that wasn't shown.

    1. I agree. All signs point to the writers wanting Leanne with Peter. I do hope the kid is Steve's though. Peter's erratic parenting is already messing up Simon, no need to add more miserable kids on that street.

  27. As much as Peter is a ne'er-do-well, at least he and Lee having a baby would make some sense. Steve and Leanne hooking up and having a baby makes zero sense.

  28. I love Nick and hope he comes back one day, do not kill him off...Good Luck to you...from Canada.............
