Got a Phelan about 2017 on Coronation Street

Coronation Street's Executive Producer, Kieran Roberts, told a crowd of Corrie fans this week that we'll be seeing a lot more of Pat Phelan in 2017.

Kieran was addressing the audience at an event to mark Granada's 60th birthday celebrations this week. It was held at HOME Manchester and you can read our full review by Tommy Cowell here.

Connor McIntyre, who plays bad-boy Phelan, was at the event and told the audience: “I was only there for three scenes originally, for the Owen storyline. And now look!”

He remembered his first scene with Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe) who was also at the event. Connor said to Sally: “I sat opposite you and I said, I can’t tell you how amazing this is. And then I had my first scenes with Rita, and Norris, and in a couple of weeks I get to film with Bill (Roache, Ken Barlow).”

But then he stopped talking, cautious of spoilers....

Run, Ken, run! Sounds like Phelan's out to get you next!

  1. He is a good actor but I have had enough of this character --- no depth and very little insight into what makes him tick except for that scene over a Dying Michael Rodwell.

  2. This was hardly welcome news. I was hoping to see the back of him, and soon.

I hope he doesn't do anything to Ken! He deserves a much more fitting end after all his years on the show, rather than a demise at the hands of this jumped up baddie that's been on the show 5 minutes.

  3. I wouldn't jump that fast - he is a terrific actor who can switch character from the baddie we all hate to the caring man who really does love Eileen. He is a lot better than some of the other so called baddies we've had on the street who couldn't act worth a damn or had no idea how to portray drama.

  4. Oh yeah! For me, Phelan is up there in the villian stakes with the likes of Richard Hillman and Tony Gordon

  5. He doesn't work for me and, definitely, he's not the baddie I love to hate. He's teamed with Eileen, another character who is unsympathetic, so that doesn't help. Connor McIntyre is a great actor except, in this role, he finds it hard to play a softie. Terence Maynard was similar in physique and demeanour and, much as he tried to say Tony was a loveable rogue, it wasn't believable in that actor. Tell me, someone who likes Phelan, what is his Achilles Heel? We've read that he sometimes loves Eileen but he's basically out for Number One. I'm sure he would dump Eileen in a heart beat if he could get out of town with a load of dosh. I don't believe he genuinely wants to repay people. A good villain, like Richard Hillman and Tony Gordon, has redeeming features. There are lots of concurrent story lines and this is one I'm not interested in.

  6. Phelan was overheard on the phone saying how hard it is to pretend with Eileen, so I really don't think he loves her at all.
He's only looking to set himself up as the victim, and find a warm bed and a roof over his head. No sympathy for Eileen either, who was warned about him by longtime residents but chose to believe a man she'd known all of 5 minutes.

He may be a terrific actor, but the character just doesn't do it for me. Tracey's one I love to hate, but Phelan I just plain loathe.

  7. The actor is terrific, for sure, but I have had enough of Phelan for awhile. I would, however, love for him to get his come-uppance.

  8. The actor is very talented but his character is too hateful to keep around. Why not have the best of both worlds in true soap fashion: have his good twin show up to put this evil twin in jail?

  9. Another here who has had enough of Phelan and Eileen too for that matter.

And what he said to Anna in the cafe this evening was unforgiveable! Such a nasty piece of work.

  10. Oh no, Can't stand him and he in no way compares to the baddies gone before him. they just recycled the Richard Hillman bad boy character into Phelan and it's not working. And Eileen is a jerk to put up with him, she has no taste in men whatsoever she's so desparate.

  11. Terrific actor and a great character.

  12. I can't believe this man is staying. I can't stand him. Here we go again, the bad guys never pay for their crimes, but those who have done nothing go to jail. How can Todd sleep at night. I would love to see the back of him too. Now Steph and Andy are leaving. I am done. I use to love corrie and now it's over for me.
