There's a been a lot of speculation on the Coronation Street Blog lately about Rana and Sharif, and I'm liking what I read.
We already know, because ITV have told us in the previews for next week, that Sharif has been having a secret affair for the last seven years with a woman called Sonia.
And last night, we saw Rana become very uncomfortable when her parents were mentioned.
So, I'm putting 2 and 2 together and possibly getting 32 here but, what if Rana turns out to be Sharif's daughter? It could get very icky if she is, of course, as this means she'll have been canoodling on the sofa with her relation.
Speculation Street, indeed!

Zeedan would be her nephew not her half-brother
ReplyDeleteThanks Kylie. I forgot that Sharif was Zeedan's grandad! :-)
ReplyDeleteEven so.
ReplyDeleteI'm all for it if it means Rana leaves! Never been too keen on her, or at least, I really don't buy her and Zeedan as a couple. She can stay and this would break them up. She can then set her sights on Luke and mend his broken heart. ;)
If it's to go down that route then Sharif's lover has been brought in to show that he's always been a player. Could be that Rana's mother has warned her off socialising with Alya and her brother and, in her rebellious way, Rana has done exactly the opposite. We would have to presume that Sharif doesn't know anything about it. But if it's nothing to do with that, perhaps Alya's parents are very orthodox in their views and have cut her off from the family until she meets a prospective husband. Do we know for sure where Rana lives?
ReplyDeletesorry .. 'Rana's' parents are very orthodox ...
ReplyDeleteI am so glad the writers have come up with something juicy for this family.
ReplyDeleteWell, it wouldn't be original, similar to Ashley's Uncle Fred turning out to be his Dad, and Betty Turpin's son Gordon being brought up by her sister. Though the potential incest is new. However Rana can't be Sharif's daughter unless the 7-year affair was 20-odd years ago, whereas the spoilers imply it's current. I'm just assuming that if Sonia is Rana's mother, Rana is aware that all is not well with her parents' marriage so it could be embarrassing to have them at a wedding anniversary party.
ReplyDeleteJulie and jason almost had a romantic liaison before finding out they were related
ReplyDeleteDid they say the affair was going on for the last seven years or just that it was an affair that went on for 7 years?
ReplyDeleteThat's what's not clear, just referred to as "7-year affair". I suppose we'll find out from watching the programme - makes a change from everything being in the spoilers.
ReplyDeleteI don't think she is. Surely the Weatherfield Pakistani community isn't that large; I can't imagine that a connected local businessman wouldn't at least know of her family. Sharif has a habit of leaving the room and acting weird when he's uncomfortable about something. If he knew of a connection between himself and Rana, he wouldn't be so outgoing and friendly to her, esp in front of Yasmeen.
ReplyDeleteIt's equally odd that neither Sharif nor Rana would know. You'd think one of them would. I could see her befriending Alya and flirting with Zeedan to get to meet her bio-dad. If she knew or had an inkling, she wouldn't be so hot to bed Z.
This sort of story belongs in Hollyoaks, not in Corrie.
