Yay or Nay - should Gemma move in with Eileen?

There was a lovely scene in Cornation Street on Monday night when Gemma returned to chez Grimshaw to collect her scrunchie she'd misplaced after her night of rumpy-pumpy with Jason.  Eileen answered the door to her, invited her in and then proceeded to give Gemma chapter and verse on the Grimshaw family history.

She chided Gemma for not thinking more of herself before launching into the back story of the Grimshaws, all wrapped up neatly in a couple of sentences. It was, I thought, a very telling scene.  Poor Gemma didn't need to hear all of that, she'd only popped in for her scrunchie.

But as one Corrie fan pointed out on twitter today, this could be the start of a relationship between Eileen and Gemma.  And indeed, once Jason Grimshaw leaves the show (find out more on that here), there'll be a spare bed in Eileen's house.  Either Todd moves back in there, or Gemma does.  And on that note, where exactly does the Toddly-boy live?

  1. Since those houses are only supposed have two bedrooms upstairs and a small bathroom, I always thought there must be bunk beds in Todd and Jason's room or two small singles. Sean has the front room downstairs as I recall. That means Jason and Gemma... with Todd in the room? Ew. However, I think over time, we are supposed to forget that and think there are three bedrooms. If there are, they must be the size of closets.

  2. No. Although Gemma has a shady past, she has her heart in the right place, and I think the attitude she has is just to prevent her from getting hurt which she would if she moves in with Jason. I think she needs to wait a while to see if the 'relationship' goes anywhere except casual.

  3. I thought Todd had moved back in when Jason got the news his dad had died?
Anyhoo, Tvor's right in that there is only so much room at Eileen's, that place is bursting at the seams as it is.

  4. Gemma is pregnant with Jason's child after her hokey pokey. At long last the J-Boy has impregnated someone but he scarpers, as did his father before him. Eileen is naturally sympathetic and since this is her only chance of a grandchild she takes Gemma in.

  5. Don't forget that the houses in the street (particularly Eileen's and Ken's) have elastic walls!

  6. No, to me Gemma is just a "blip" on the Grimshaw radar and not meant to be a long term commitment. I hope the powers that be see the character and the actress as more than just Jason's one night stand, too much talent and potential. Moving in with Eileen will just bring her down.

  7. It could be fun... maybe it would bring a bit of fun back to Eileen.

I would love to see a friendship develop between Eileen and Gemma. Just that one scene last night showed there is good chemistry between them. I don't think Gemma would necessarily need to move in to become a good friend. Both women could sure use someone on their side, Eileen now sinking deeper into the mucky trap set by Phelan, and Gemma barely recovering from her dysfunctional relationship with Callum.

  11. Todd and Gemma would certainly make more interesting roomies than Phelan. At least Gemma would be paying rent, like Sean.

(Not sure if my comment got lost in the intertubes, so I'll paraphrase what I recall writing)

I think the Eileen and Gemma scrunchie scene was brill and showed a certain good chemistry between the two. I don't think Gemma needs to necessarily move in chez Grimshaw, but these women might benefit each other as allies. Especially with Eileen sinking deeper into the mire of Phelan's scheming, and Gemma barely recovered from her dysfunctional crush on Callum the dead. Would enjoy seeing many outpourings of anger and mutual support, with wine.

  13. I like Gemma...she needs to attach to a family....I think Eileen would be the ideal choice.

  14. Yes - because Gemma is likely who Eileen was when Eileen was young.
Eileen can give her some guidance. And Gemma's "gabbiness" will go well against Eileen's dour demeanor.
