Tony Warren funeral - Manchester Cathedral on Friday March 18

The funeral of Coronation Street creator Tony Warren has been set for Manchester Cathedral on Friday March 18 at 2pm.

Members of the Corrie cast, past and present, will be among those expected to pay their respects to the TV pioneer.

Members of the public are also being invited to attend the service, say the Manchester Evening News.

Mr Warren, 79, had been suffering from a short illness and passed away on March 1st.

He was awarded an MBE for services to broadcasting after creating the gritty soap about working class life in 1960 at the age of 24.

He remained a consultant on the Manchester-based soap until the day he died.
