Faye Brookes, who plays Kate Connor, is interviewed in The Sun today. The interview, as you might expect from the paper, is geared around Kate talking about the 'First time I’d ever kissed a girl'
On that subject, Faye says: "It was the first day I had ever met Rhea too. We read the scripts together first but that was nothing compared to having to actually kiss her. There were hands everywhere. Luckily, we had a chemistry. In some ways it was easier than kissing a guy. I loved how open she was," she told The Sun. I’ve kissed loads of guys on stage and this was very different. We got a really positive reaction from viewers."
At the end of the interview is one sentence which could perhaps herald the end of Kate and Caz's relationship on Corrie. Faye reaveals to The Sun that Caz will turn abusive in "a sensational new plot".
We've had men on Corrie being abusive towards women. We've had women being abusive towards men. We've currently got a son being abusive to his mum. And now we're set to have a lesbian soldier being abusive to her girlfriend.
What do you think, Corrie fans?

same, same, same.... Do the Corrie Producers pile old scripts on the desk pull one from the bottom and just change the names?
ReplyDeleteIt will be a fine day when Stuart Blackburn leaves
What do I think? Dull, dull, dull!
ReplyDeleteAnd hear hear, Beth!
EastEnders did the exact same storyline with a lesbian couple (Tina Carter and Tosh). Tosh was even in the army like Caz.
ReplyDeleteOh, for heaven's sake - really? Sigh... In comes Sophie Webster on her high horse to rescue the damsel in dungarees too, we assume...
ReplyDeleteThis is similar to a fairly recent Eastenders story, featuring an interracial, same sex, female couple, where the abusive partner works in a traditionally male job. It seemed forced when I saw it the first time. Maybe Kate could just break off the relationship, and Caz is hurt but leaves anyway?
ReplyDeleteI hope perhaps they will place some emphasis on the fact that Caz is perhaps suffering from PTSD like so many soldiers do, and that is the reason for her abusive behavior. Could be an opportunity to take a "meh" story/rerun and turn it into a positive learning experience. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteGetting tired of the PTSD excuse for everything. Military personnel do and live responsibly and deserve better treatment and respect. Let's see it!

DeleteIf they want to write about forms of abuse, joking apart, why not a storyline about animals: puppy breeding, fighting dogs, or pet neglect. This is a serious issue in my neck of the woods and,in Corrie, ties in with Kirk's experience with dogs. As for this storyline, obviously a plot device to get Sophie and Kate together.

ReplyDeleteFlo, I don't want a "positive learning experience". At the end of a hard day's work, I just want to be entertained as in the olden days of Corrie.
ReplyDeleteNo, not another abuse storyline. We've already had a post traumatic stress storyline with Gary we do not need another one. For heaven's sake can the writers not come with anything better. Same old same old. It is obviously designed to pair Kate up with boring Sophie. That will be the end of Kate we all know what happens to Sophie's girlfriends.
ReplyDeleteWell either they pile up the old scripts on the desk and pick the first one to fall to the ground, or they toss them all up in the air and stab with an arrow to decide which one to replay. Wow really imaginative. NOT. Is it just me or does anyone else think that perhaps, just perhaps the actors themselves have more imagination and talent than they are being credited for. I would hope that TPTB do include the actors in the writing conferences.
ReplyDeleteNo, the actors have minimal input into storylining, particularly when they're so new to the show. It's a shame, in my opinion, but that's just how it works.
DeleteLike everyone else said..boring. I can barely bring myself to turn on the TV for Corrie these days. Yawn
ReplyDeleteOh what a shame, I had been thinking that this relationship is the first one to be quite matter of fact about them being gay, rather than it being such a big deal, like with Sophie and Sian or Jenna, maybe Maddie was less so. There seems to be so much emphasis on bad stuff now in Corrie. A bit more good would be nice. I've quite liked Caz up to now too, a positive character about to be ruined by yet another sensationalist storyline.
ReplyDeleteIt might have had more er... impact... if Caz was in Weatherfield for more than a couple of days at a time. Tyrone and Kirsty's storyline came many years after a husband/wife abuse storyline and that was between secondary characters (a Rovers cleaner Sandra Stubbs) and it was very short. This will be the third abuse storyline in about 4 years.
ReplyDeleteTotal rip from EE. Writers need to be sacked!
ReplyDeleteMessage...If you are a dark skinned girl or in the Army you cannot have a good relationship. Thanks Corrie. lol
ReplyDeleteAlso...for such a young girl as Kate, and seeing her fiancé only once in a while...how can anyone condone the marriage gay or straight?
But I agree.....Corrie writer rehashing again....I will fast forward over this one.
How about a story exploring the abuse heaped upon innocent viewers by soap producers and writers?
ReplyDeleteThis is completely copied from Eastenders and clearly a plot device to get Kate and Sophie together in the end. I swear, Stuart Blackburn was out to ruin the show once he was sacked, so he started coming up with 'sensational' new plots. Nice one Blackburn. And everyone knows what'll happen to Kate in a few years....leaves Weatherfield or dies, just like all of Sophie's girlfriends.
ReplyDeleteOh goodie, a front burner story for the girl who's been here for 5 minutes and the girlfriend for even less. Clearly these are characters for whom we care deeply. And abuse with a twist hasn't been done since, uh, Friday.
ReplyDeleteKate realizes that she isn't ready to get married, or that Kaz isn't the one. Her father and brother are useless. She has no friends. She has no mom. She has no money or prospects. That's enough of a story. Don't need the tedious rehashed sensationalism slapped on. CrimeNation Street, blech!!
Clearly a pathetic attempt to copy Eastenders - like many of Blackburn's story lines!
ReplyDeletePlease wake me when it's over. I don't think we can blame the writers here, as surely the general story lines are put forward by the producer. The new one can't get here fast enough for me! As mentioned before, the actors could likely come up with better plot devices. I feel sorry for them trying to make these ridiculous plots look real. Not surprising that many of them have fled for greener pastures.
ReplyDeleteIt does seem like a copy of Tina and Tosh's storyline which was on EastEnders not that long ago! Tosh was away all the time too and then she'd randomly turn up to "surprise" Tina just like Caz does with Kate. Then she started to get jealous of Tina's friendship with another girl and would get violent.
ReplyDeleteAlong with the fact that we're about to see another depressing abuse storyline soon after Simon's[who seems to have gotten away with it],I also don't like that it will again feature the Connors who have been seen in too many recycled storylines already while others are pushed aside or axed.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Anon's comment about how the viewers are the ones suffering from "abuse" - WE REALLY ARE. I was looking forward to the new producer starting, but my mum (who watches Emmerdale regularly) told me that the show has gone to pot also - too many "explosive" plots, etc. So I'm not too optimistic about what we have to look forward to. Really a shame, after all these years, to take a really great show and turn it upside down. I don't blame the stars for leaving in droves. That is, the smart ones, they obviously see what is coming down the pipeline and it ain't pretty.
ReplyDeleteIs Rhea Bailey going to be a regular now? It is a shame that they are going this route copying Eastenders Tosh and Tina down to the abusive partner's nickname, as it will only turn Caz evil and I do like Rhea as an actress.
ReplyDeleteTaken straight from Eastenders.....
ReplyDeleteHave they actually stated that she will be physically abusive towards Kate?
ReplyDeleteIt just states that she becomes jealous & obsessive - & they may throw in a twist & have her go after Sophie.
When Kate was first cast it seemed inevitable to me that she would end up with Sophie. And as much as I want to see that down the road I have also taken a liking to Kate with Caz and their relationship dynamic. I'm sort of disappointed that this is the turn they took to break Kate and Caz up and make way for Sophie to enter to picture mostly because why does Caz have to leave on bad terms like this. She's barely around as it, they could easily just send her off to war. Another thing is that we barely know Caz and so unless they do this right (which is doubtful) the biggest question will be the WHY? Why does Caz become abusive? IS it some PTSD (been there, done that with Gary). Was a parent in her life (been there, done that with Kirsty). Unless they do it where it would make sense than I can get behind it but I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteCorrie is getting so repetitious. Could a wedding just happen without any problems? I know this is a soap, and soaps are dramatic, but such repetition gets boring. We can see the end of the plot from 10 miles away.
