  1. So is that it for Rob them? Great to have him back, and I have enjoyed the scenes with his cell-mate, but apart from the paternity revelation, which could have been accomplished some other way, and the wrecking of Tracy's relationship (really, Rob might just as well have saved his illicit phone minutes and left it to Tracy to do it under her own steam) he hasn't really accomplished anything. I was hoping for a more elaborate plot with a tangled skein of Machiavellian string-pulling. Noel Coward in the 'Italian Job', he's not! Still, he may have more up his sleeve. He does have another 20 years to come up with a new plan ...

And before we have a chorus of comments about pouring drinks over people's heads, can I point out that at this stage, it's happened so many times that it must constitute Learned Behaviour, and is therefore exactly what one would expect to happen. Man treats woman shabbily: woman tips her glass over him. It's perceived as the 'done thing' in Weatherfield, an anthropological curiosity.

  2. As if a woman like Emily would go to Peru!

  3. Anon 13:15 - a woman like Emily once sat in a tree as part of a protest and allowed her nephew to smoke pot in her home. There's no telling what Emily Bishop is capable of. ;)

  4. Yes, I agree, I think it's exactly the sort of thing Emily would do. I just hope she returns, but I feel in my heart she might not.

  5. I'm hoping she's just waiting until the new producer takes over to make her comeback. I really hope the actress is ok, though, regardless of whether she returns or not. She deserves a happy retirement if that's what this is.

  6. I also think Emily would go off and travel to Peru before it's too late. However, it's not realistic that she would go off without her inoculations, and she wouldn't get the full set within one or two weeks. However, this may be the let-out if Eileen Derbyshire decides not to return. She will die of typhoid/hepatitis. Her old pals will sit in the pub, consoling each other that she died doing the thing she loved.

Strange but I can't feel any empathy for Carla. First, I think she would put her mother's shenanigans down as just another piece of s*** from her childhood. To be fair to Johnny, he told Carla as soon as he knew for sure. Second, Carla has never been allowed to show any vulnerability about her childhood memories. I don't recall seeing her weep over an old photo of her parents, or when seeing a teddy bear that looked very similar to her (maybe) only toy. Her childhood is only referenced when it suits the plot. Simply a plot device for AK to leave.

  7. I don't understand what the deal is and why they have to shield the truth from Aiden and Kate. They are not babies. You'd think they might be happy Carla was a half sister.
And what a waste of Rob. It was great to see him again, but since they painted him into a corner with the murder of Tina, that's it.
And, I'm sorry but Carla sleeping with Robert is just lame and so contrived it is embarrassing.

  8. Zagg,I could see Kate being jealous of Carla as she was always 'Daddy's little girl. However I do agree that the storyline is contrived.
I also think the writers don't know what to do with Kate and Aidan if they have to recycle the sleazy 'sleeping with someone to win a bet'storyline that they used with Bev and Tracy with Roy.Is Aidan going to use a date rape drug on Eva?
Whatever sympathy I had for Tyrone is gone,he steals from his partner because he's broke and yet he and Fiz having the time of their lives in the pub instead of being at home with their children?

  9. This is reminiscent of when Eva found out that Leanne was her half-sister....same anger and jealousy.

  10. Anon @21:04: the bet story is rather different in this case. Aidan bet that we would NOT sleep with Eva, as she's his employee. Kate's view is that she knows her brother better than he does himself and he won't be able to resist Eva for long. It was a little more high-minded than the tawdry Tracy story. So of course he isn't going to use a date rape drug in order to NOT sleep with her! I know he's still a fairly new character, but is he really the sort of guy you'd expect to do something like that?

  11. Oh there's Eva pouring a drink over someone's head and Carla jumping into the sack... she loves to destroy her own happiness. The writers need to come up with some new material. Please let that be a New Year's Resolution!

  12. Cobblestone,I didn't think Aidan would do something like that nor do I agree that his bet with his sister is 'high-minded'but is as sleazy as Tracy's and Bev's was.Why would a sister make a sleazy bet with her brother about sleeping with someone? I hope Kate is never paired off with Sophie now.
