Saeed Jaffrey, who played Corrie's Ravi Desai, has died age 86

Saeed Jaffrey, who played Dev's uncle Ravi Desai in Coronation Street, has died at the age of 86.

The character of Ravi joined Coronation Street in 1999 after buying the corner shop from Fred Elliott. He left later that same year after selling the shop to his nephew, Dev Alahan.

Saeed Jaffrey also acted in other TV shows, including Tandoori Nights, The Far Pavilions and The Jewel In The Crown. Saeed starred in several Bollywood and international films. He played high-profile roles in international films including A Passage To India and Gandhi.

Born in the Indian state of Punjab, Jaffrey began his career as a theatre actor, and later went on to work with legends like Sean Connery, Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his contributions to drama.

Jaffrey was married to actress-author Madhur Jaffrey with whom he had three children.
