Ken Barlow to go public with his new romance

Ken might be having a good time looking for love next week on Coronation Street, but there are some people on the Street who think he's out of line.

Firstly, Tracy pours cold water on her step-dad's fling with Nessa and tells him it's far too soon after Deirdre's death.

Tracy will tell Ken she can't believe he's moving on already just a few months after Deirdre died. Worse still, after Tracy loses her temper with Ken, he seeks solace in his friends on the Street but they give him short-shrift.  Both Rita and Emily agree with Tracy and tell Ken that they aren't too happy with his choice of companion.  Rita, for now, keeps quiet about Audrey's crush on Ken.

Tracy's fella Robert is the only one who thinks Ken should grab happiness where he can and Ken decides to do just that. He and Nessa go public with their romance and of course, this will leave the fragrant Mrs Roberts somewhat distraught.

What do we think, Corrie fans? Is Nessa the right woman for Ken? Is Audrey? Is it too soon for anyone just yet after Deirdre's death?

  1. For me, it's too soon. A year would've been better.

  2. Older men don't like being alone and will commonly find another woman relatively quickly after their wife dies. I think it's his business and no one else's. Who is Tracy to judge anyone's behaviour anyway? I don't know much about Nessa yet to decide if she's a good choice. I just think people should for once mind their own business and their own messed-up lives.

  3. It's too soon. Nessa isn't to be trusted so it could fall apart quite quickly. Ken may then turn to Audrey and she rejects him or he realises that nobody can take Deirdre's place - at least, for a while. Ken will get used to his new circumstances and throw himself into some community activities. That's what I hope, anyway.

  4. It's definitely too soon and even if it wasn't, I don't think Nessa would be right for Ken. Not that I think Audrey would be a better choice - I'd rather they all just stayed friends.

  5. I think this is actually an appropriate way for he and Audrey to get together. As mentioned above, older men do tend to like someone around. Let him find out Nessa is all wrong and slowly realize that Audrey is a great friend AND a great girlfriend!

  6. Given that Ken found romance several times while he was still married to a very-much alive Deirdre, the issue of too soon is redundant.

  7. As in the past Ken should start dating both of them. He was never that good at being a one-woman man. That might give Tracy something to chew on - move them both in Ken!

  8. I think when you are in your eighties, you realize that time is not on your side and therefore move ahead on love and companionship if given the opportunity. What is the correct mourning time? A year? Two years? Says who? People do get used to being with someone and being alone at that age can be sad and depressing. And let's face it, he has Tracy, which is not a comforting thought in the least. I say, go for it Ken!

  9. It wasn't so long ago that Ken raged at his daughter for Deirdre staying away the last few months of her life because she was ashamed of Tracy's affair with Tony and now only a few months after Deirdre's death,Tracy discovers her father with another woman wearing her mother's robe?!No wonder Tracy feels hurt.
I think it would've been easier for Tracy to accept if it was Audrey or Bev[who had a narrow escape.]but not Nessa a total stranger.

  10. Why is Ken allowing Tracy, her former husband, and her daughter to continue to live in his house? He doesn't need a home carer. What he does is his own business. Kick them out!

  11. Anon 21:51 well said! You said exactly what I was thinking. High time Ken kicked the lot of them out! Tracy is in no position whatsoever to judge anyone considering the stunts she's pulled. If I were Ken I'd tell her to shut up and move out!

  12. It is definitely too soon. I like the thought of Audrey and Ken together though, so perhaps this Nessa relationship is to break the ice of Ken dating again. He'll get over Nessa quickly and realize that he and Audrey are much better suited.
    IMHO.

  13. It's great to have a new storyline for Ken. Apart from the scenes around Deirdre's death and funeral he hasn't had that much to do since William Roche's return. I quite like Nessa. I was thinking, slightly off topic, has Audrey had a proper romance since Alf died? Lewis maybe, anyone else?
