Ted will play a character called Brendan and ITV have confirmed the signing today.
Ted Robbins was born in 1955 in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. He is an actor and writer, known for The Slammer (2006), Calendar Girls (2003) and Eric & Ernie (2011). He starred in Phoenix Nights too.

Oh dear, yet another "personality". Why, oh why can't they return to casting the best person for the part, preferably giving a chance to a complete unknown, rather than constantly using stunt casting as a means to gain publicity.

ReplyDeleteTed Robbins is a very good actor with a proven track record so it doesn't seem like stunt casting to me. How old is Mary meant to be? They're always putting her with older characters but the actress is only around forty.

ReplyDeleteI'm all for some new characters on Corrie, but the cast is already so bloated. It's time to trim things down a bit, and it's going to take more than Lloyd and Andrea.

ReplyDeleteI can accept Sinead as Sinead, Steph as Steph, Calum as Calum etc. But Erica is 'er off Emmerdale, Stella was Cindy, Gloria was Sheila Grant. Known actors/singers/personalities come with baggage and do not fit a soap personna.
What happened to Oldham Theatre Workshop and the great characters we had who trained there.
At least we'll know what Ted Robbins character will be like.....like every other role he's played ie himself.
How many actors have been in Corrie now that were in Phoenix Nights? Peter Kay, Paddy next week, Justin, Ted, lady who played Michael's aunty, anyone else? I'm not complaining btw, performances have been good so far, hopefully Ted will be too.

ReplyDeleteWow all so negative! They are further developing Mary, what's wrong with that? And there is no one else who could have been a possible love interest, really. I am happy about this, could be fun! Lots and lots of other comPlatts to make but this is not one of 'em...

Why do people big up a storyline that is clearly going to be rubbish?
ReplyDeleteMary is nothing more than a clown character. Simple as that. We're all meant to see her as the epitome of the classic Corrie comedy characters when all she does is talk gibberish all day without any kind of prompting. This is how I see a classic Mary scene...
"Richard, did you kill Maxine?"
"Yes"
*Mary walks in*
"Mother once said that she preferred digestive biscuits. Please laugh at this comment to justify my pay cheque."
Thats Mary in a nutshell.
I like Mary and to my mind she isn't (yet) a formidable Corrie woman but I think she could be given the right script and storylines. To date she seems to have been on the periphery, mostly a comedic secondary character in her scenes and a relationship could allow us to know the real Mary, hopefully without so much jollity and so-called funny references to 'mother'. C'mon Mr Blackburn, make her a real person and not the caricature that she currently is...
ReplyDeleteOh, let him be the man who bought her motorhome at auction and after a brief OFF SCREEN courtship (something that I'd ever want to see), drives her off into the sunset, never to be heard of again.
ReplyDeleteTonights OTT behavior around planning Sally's wedding is exactly why I cannot stand this cartoonish shell of an adult. Luke and Zeedan are secondary characters, but they are normal people capable holding normal conversations, connecting with folk and becoming likable Mary is just an unregulated stream of demented consciousness, oblivious to almost everything and everyone around her. She isn't funny, she never was funny, and after all these years, isn't going to become pleasant or likable, either. Enough. Bye bye.
After having her hopes with Dev dashed,I do hope Mary is luckier in love this time as Norris also takes her for granted.
