Celebrating four years of the Tinkers on Coronation Street

This week is the fourth anniversary of Beth and Craig Tinker on Coronation Street.  Actor Colson Smith, who plays Craig on Corrie, tweeted yesterday that he's been on the show since 2011.  And what a joy he is.

Beth Tinker and her son Craig turned up in 2011 when Steve met Beth on a blind date.  Beth turned up with her son Craig, and he never said a word in his first couple of episodes. If you remember, he used to silently eat biscuits and drink pop!

On their blind date Beth and Steve realised they knew each other as Steve had once had a one-night stand with Beth. There was some speculation when she first appeared that Steve might turn out to be Craig's real dad and I still hope that might be true!  We've still never met Craig's real dad... hmm.

Beth and Craig are a joy. Long may the Tinker clan reign on Coronation Street.

You can watch Beth and Craig's first scene (via the official ITV Coronation Street YouTube site, so it may not be available to overseas fans, sadly), below:

  1. Wasn't Beth supposed to have been a model when Steve dated her? He was quite surprised! Craig was really funny as that awkward, silent child, always eating! But I'm glad they have grown him into a somewhat awkward and shy teen who is a kid with a big heart.

  2. At the time, I wonder how many of us thought Craig would be awful. Quite a few I bet!

  3. I really like how they've developed Craig's character and I hope they continue in a positive way. Would make a nice change to have a youngster not go off the rails! We've seen his fab art work, maybe that could carry on somehow.

  4. I love Craig and they've developed him brilliantly because, no offence to the actor, he's just an ordinary kid and not likely to become a heart throb. They've had to give him a proper character and it really works. I wish they would develop Beth's character. I'd like to see some of her vulnerability and I'm sure the actress can do much more than comedy.

  5. I loved them from day 1. Beth doesn't flaunt her missing tooth anymore (too funny).

  6. I think craig will always be a bit like Kirk and never given any major storylines.

  7. I 100% agree! I loved them when they showed up...I had my doubts about Craig but he's turned out brilliantly. I hope they keep them both for life!
I also love the 'extended' Tinker clan, they're great to watch.

  8. Always enjoyed them. Beth had taken overJanice's role in the street. Craig should be declared a national treasure. He just might be another Corrie lifer. It was a wise to give Tracy a best friend.

  9. I'm not keen on gobby Beth. She's not good enough for Kirkeh. Craig, however, is a lovely character and I think that he has much potential. I hope that Barrie.T is incorrect, and that he won't end up underused like Kirk, but I suspect that he will.

In fact, I think that Craig and Kirkeh could be a wonderful double act, as Steve and Lloyd have been.

  10. I too have loved them since day one! I also hope that one day we will learn that Steve is Craig's dad! X

I absolutely love Craig and when he is partnered with Tim it's pure gold - they are my 2 favourite characters at this time - I really think they carry the best of the program - every other storyline is really the pits.
