Lucy Fallon has her Corrie contract extended

Lucy Fallon has had her contract extended for another six months on Coronation Street.  The actress, who plays Bethany Platt, joined the show in February signing up initially for just six months.

Her agent has confirmed to The Blackpool Gazette that she will be staying on with a second six-month contract.  Lucy will also feature in the show’s live episode in September, as part of ITV's 60th anniversary.

Agent Jessica Bell said: “We are very proud of Lucy. She is certainly a character to be reckoned with on the street. I am really looking forward to her up and coming story lines.Lucy is a great ambassador for young talent.”

  1. Bethany might become an interesting character once they've toned her down a bit. Atm, with her school uniform and all that slap making her look 30, she could be starring in 'Confessions of a Head Master'!

  2. Oh God no! That's dreadful news. I was praying that Bethany would be dropped, awful character.

  3. Agree with Humpty the make-up really is ridiculous for a 14 year old especially at school. Why not let her just look like that at weekends which would be far more realistic. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the actresses ego getting in the way with this one.

You think the character wears a lot of make-up because of the actress's ego??? It was made clear from the first press release announcing the return of Sarah and Bethany that Bethany likes to look and act much older than her age, and the make-up is part of that. Lucy Fallon is simply playing the character as directed.

    1. Having worked in a UK school for a number of years I can tell you in no uncertain terms that a 14 year old would not be allowed to wear makeup like that.
It's a 19 year old playing a 14 year old the age difference says it all.

  5. Well, I for one am delighted. I think she is a terrific addition to the cast, and love her attitude to all those around her.

  6. The actress is at the mercy of the producers, storyliners, and writers. If they're trying to portray her as the terrible product of an inexperienced, neglectful, ridiculously young mother, who is being a "bff", instead of a mother, they're succeeding! Both Sarah and Bethany are obnoxious. We can only hope that the story arc for them is such that we see the consequences of this poor parenting. However, since both Gail and Audrey were sadly lacking in parenting skills, it's unlikely that any help will come from within the family.

  7. Good news. She's a character who spices things up naturally.

  8. Unbelievable! These two characters are awfull. They add absolutely nothing to the Corrie St. set. Sarah is a moron. Bethany is an ignorant, self-centred and rude. I realize that these two are "actors" and at the mercy of the writers...however, Bethany is mis-cast and not believable...Sarah and the whole Cullum storyline is ridiculous. There is something seriously wrong with the writers on this show.

Hm this character could be redeemable if they just get rid of her mother who is is just gormless, pointless and downright annoying. They dont need to be Siamese twins all the time either.

  11. Nice to see people taking this news well.

  12. Today I clicked on an old post by Graeme from 2013 and the comments were SO positive - everyone was on a high because finally Collinson was gone and the show was returning to its roots, its gentle humour, its character-based focus. What happened in the intervening 2 years? Bethany is only the most recent in a series of characters no one seems to like, that is, until they announce they're leaving - eg Rob, Julie, Maddie. Should the producer listen to fan input or proceed regardless? Are fans fickle? Why did Rob become popular just as he was being booted? Why Maddie? 6 months from now, will Bethany be a fan favourite? Can someone please write a blog about this?

  13. I fast-forward anytime Sarah, Bethany or Callum appear on my TV screen.

  14. So do I, anon @ 14:32, so do I. Cannot bear any of them.

And no, anon @ 13:41, I highly doubt Bethany would EVER be a fan favourite. Awful, awful character, so bad I said it twice!

  15. @ anon 15:10 - I'm just saying the same people who hated a character 12 months ago, love them suddenly. You can view the posts and see for yourself. If you still hate Bethany 12 months from now, good on you.

  16. I like her and I'm glad Bethany is staying.

  17. BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Worst news of the day. I am not surprised though. Somehow the PTB just don't get it right. Of course they would think this gobby horrible too old to be playing a teen, character is charming. Yeah, let Lloyd and Julie and Marcus et...leave the show but keep this ridiculousness on our screens.
    Wow. How disappointing.

  18. A replacement for Rosie Webster that no one asked for. No doubt she will do the rounds as the street bike, pose in bikinis for tabloids, then quit. Surname Jones she ain't.

  19. I don't mind her. I do hope she gets some interaction with the other young people and I hope they tone her down just a little but not too much. She reminds me more of Candice than Rosie and she's smarter than both of them put together.

  20. For me to like her they are going to have to tone her down a lot! Nothing personal against the actress but in my humble opinion she is way too old for the part. As for Sarah what hope is there for her she doesn't appear to have matured or gotten any wiser than she was when she left. I'm glad that there are fans that are enjoying the return of Bethany and Sarah but sadly I am not one of them.

  21. I think Bethany's character is too unbelievable. She in no way acts like someone who has been brought up in a foreign country. She would not have a strong Yorkshire accent like that for one and the make up is hideous. No school would allow her to wear it. Ok she could go to school like that and they would send her to wash it off and she'd return from school without make up. That would make sense. And Sarah has picked up where she left off as a self centred bratty teenager. It's unimaginable that she's raised a child on her own!

  22. To be fair to the actress who plays Bethany, in pictures I've seen of her, she is wearing far less makeup than on the program. I suspect the excessive makeup was not her choice.

  23. dreadful news, I think one of the worse characters ever on the show, and Sarah isn't much better !

  24. I'd prefer Vicky Pollard over Bethany

  25. I just wish she would stop with the eye-rolling. How is that acting? It's like amateur hour at the end of the pier.

  26. Perhaps the reason she and Sarah seem so annoying is because I genuinely don't get where they are going with these characters. Yes, they are currently antagonizing David but were they even necessary to that storyline? Once Maxgate has finally ended (please Jesus, let it be soon), they what will they do with these two? More fodder in the Platt pit.

  27. Vicky Pollard!!!! HAHAHAHA! That was awesome.I would prefer her too.
