Next week on Coronation Street, Claire King returns as Erica Holroyd with shocking news for Nick - she's up the duff, in the club and has a pudding in the oven.
Yes, the older woman Erica will break the shock news to Nick that she's pregnant and the baby is his. The previews for next week says that Nick will reel from Erica's bombshell about a Tilsley Toddler and confides in Carla.
Can Carla
offer Nick the support he needs or will Erica's return put the brakes on
any chance they had of a relationship?
Have we had an older woman being pregnant in Corrie storyline before, can anyone recall?

Blimey Claire King is 52, not very likely
ReplyDeleteI can only think of Bet Lynch who was 47 when she fell pregnant in 1988
ReplyDeleteMenopausal pregnancies aren't that unusual and it might have been an interesting storyline. Unfortunately, pregnancies - false and fulfilled - seem to be a regular occurrence on the Street. Never mind pregnancy, surely Erica would have insisted that Nick used protection for health reasons? Callum and Sarah have their scare at some point, according to the soap mags. Bethany will probably have her own shenanigans in a few months' time.
ReplyDeleteProtection isn't 100% effective in preventing pregnancy but people always seem to think using it makes everything ok. We had Nick utter a phrase of doom the other week, when Gail mentioned something about "when you have children of your own" and Nick shuddered and hoped that was the last time he ever heard that line. I wonder if she's sure or if she's hitting menopause and doesn't realize that's what's actually happening.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness me cant the writers think of anything else apart from another unplanned pregancy storyline. 52 my eye - she is nearer late 50s and if she is pregnant naturally then there would be a story in the local press. Call back the obnoxious reporter woman from the corner shop yesterday!
ReplyDeleteWhile menopausal pregnancies are not impossible, I think it's far more common for women not to find Mr Right until they hit their late 30s or 40s, then try desperately to have a child. That's why the waiting rooms at fertility clinics are jam-packed with couples who look like they should already have a few kids. I don't like this storyline because it promotes the fantasy that it is still possible to fall pregnant naturally at 50, which is more fluke than probability. A more realistic and moving storyline was Julie's inability to have children.
ReplyDeleteI have an idea - a moratorium on any storylines related to pregnancies until 2020. Can you imagine the challenge for the writers, lol?
ReplyDeleteAll these comments from men who appear to be gynacologists is both amusing and at the same time insulting. Women aren't commenting on male characters bald spots are they.
ReplyDeleteAnything that gives Erica screen time is a bad idea in my mind.

ReplyDeleteHow rude! The actress is 52 and looking good on it.
Denise Osbourne - the hairdresser.
ReplyDeleteShe's probably going through the menopause and is too dumb to recognize the signs. Anyway, the writers should be slapped for this storyline..gagamaggot.
ReplyDeleteI take it you're another male gynacologist.
Deleteummm....now there is an interesting twist!
ReplyDeleteHa - will be interesting to see Nick try to bully Erica into having an abortion, as has been his course of action in the past!
