Melanie Hill arrives on Coronation Street tonight

Roy's new lady friend Cathy arrives tonight on Coronation Street. Cathy Matthews will be played by Melanie Hill, one of my favourite actresses and a Sunderland lass too, just like myself.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing Melanie on my favourite telly show.

Here's what we know about Roy's new friend. Roy gets his own allotment to grow some fruit and veg, and meets a widowed lady on the next allotment lot. This is where Cathy, played by Melanie Hill, will come into Roy's life.

She won't be a love interest - but someone who Roy will feel obliged to help guide through the world. Roy will offer real, redemptive support to Cathy.

Melanie says she's not there to fill Hayley's shoes, and neither would we want her to. Here's to Melanie on Corrie and a new friend for Roy!
