Is Adrian the man for Corrie's Eileen?
Last night we saw the first appearance of Adrian, who is going to be Eileen Grimshaw's new man in Coronation Street. Or should I say the latest in a long line of men...
Anyway, I really enjoyed Adrian's first appearance and the first date scenes they shared at the Bistro. They were light, funny and it was good to see Eileen with a smile on her face for a change. I just hope this continues for a while.
Eileen, like most Corrie women has had her fair share of grief over the years so we can probably safely assume there is a lot more on the horizon. Adrian seems on the face of it, to be a decent, normal bloke. I know we've been here before with Dennis Stringer (who went off with Janice and died in a car crash), Jerry Morton (who had a large and largely forgotten family) and Paul (who had a secret wife who died in Eileen's kitchen) so I'm holding my breath for skeletons in Adrian's cupboard.
I really like Eileen. She's a strong Corrie woman and Sue Cleaver has always played her with relish whether it's comedy scenes with Steve and Lloyd in the cab office, family dramas with Jason and Todd or romantic ups and downs. She is a well-rounded, down to earth character at a time when soap operas seem to be hurtling towards more extreme storylines. I hope Eileen gets a shot at a proper long-term romance.
I also like Mark Moraghan who has come in to play Adrian. I remember him well from his stint in the much-missed Brookside, particularly for his wooing of no-better-than-she-ought-to-be Susannah Farnham. As an actor he seems to immediately fit into Coronation Street so I hope it all works out well.
I've heard a rumour that Eileen's son Todd will attempt to derail her happiness in the same way he did for Jason's relationship with the lovely Eva. I hope this isn't true or if it is, he doesn't succeed. If we are in for more of nasty Todd, I'd at least like to finally get to the bottom of what has made him the way he is. Hopefully that will come.
In the meantime it's just nice to see our Eileen happy.

He seems an upbeat character - lets keep him and get rid of old misery guts who will soon drag him down.
ReplyDeleteAs long as he is prepared to live in her overcrowded house, give up everything for her including a job he loves because she isn't happy. And watch out he doesn't use an out of date phrase in front of Lloyd in case of being accused of being a racist.
ReplyDeleteTodd shouldn't bother, Eileen's bitterness and true colours will soon rise.
Due to Todd's interference, Eileen will find Adrian boring in comparison to fictitious would-be dates on the internet. Too late, she realises he was perfect for her. With any luck, Eileen sends Todd packing back to London when his other 'pranks' are discovered.
ReplyDeleteThe Todd seeking revenge plot is just old now, old and boring. It has gone on so long, does anyone remember or care? This side story is truly one of the most useless in Corrie history. The writers clearly don't know what to do with Todd, so they resurrect this lame revenge story, as if that is supposed to make the viewers not notice how useless the character is. And working in Barlow's Buys? Wow, there's a plot line that contributes nothing and defies all realm of reality. That shop could not employ one person, let alone two.
ReplyDeleteUnless they are going to make Todd have one big Norman Bates kind of showdown with someone, I say, time to let him go back to London and disappear for good. Clearly this character is not working at all.
I do agree, this Todd business is getting boring and going nowhere fast. Without any reason behind why he's doing it, it just seems childish at his age.
ReplyDeleteI like Eileen, always have.
Are Sean and Eileen the same persona? The same jibes at the end of every sentence..rolling of the eyes..self put downs..can we please have new material for Eileen other than yet another man?
ReplyDeleteI have continually enjoyed the 'always-something-to-say' Mrs. Grimshaw.... Eileen, hopefully you and your new man will enjoy a forever after.....
ReplyDeleteI don't understand what the writers are doing to Todd. He used to be a nice guy. Now look at him. All he does is work in Tracy's stupid little shop selling stolen goods and hang around his mother. He is a very nice looking lad why on earth doesn't he have any friends? High time he left the street and got a life!
ReplyDeleteThe mean-to-everybody Todd thingy is so bad it makes me wonder if cast members ever complain about totally useless storylines like this. I'd hate to be stuck in a role like this one.
