Deirdre's funeral has been written for Coronation Street

Deirdre's funeral has now been written for Coronation Street.

Coronation Street writer Damon Rochefort has written the funeral. He said on twitter last night to Jane Danson, who plays Leanne, that he was proud to have written Deirdre's funeral. I agree with Gillian Skerritt, a Coronation Street fan on twitter who said she was pleased to hear Damon had written the funeral, as it was in safe hands.

You can read Corrie writer Damon Rochefort's profile here.

News that Chris Gascoyne, who plays Peter Barlow, will be returning to Coronation Street for Deirdre's funeral has been welcomed.  In a further interview today with the Nottingham Post, Chris says this about Peter's return to Corrie: "It's just to tie things up with Deirdre's character. So you know, I'll look forward to doing that, it will be good for me because I was very close to Annie (Anne Kirkbride).

"Her death hit me very hard and you know, I was away working when that happened so I wasn't there in the fold so to speak. And it was really hard to come to terms with so I'll go back and do this and get a bit of closure on it. Lay that to rest so to speak.

"But I always said that hopefully I would go back at some point. Maybe for a few years again."

I hope this is done with taste and dignity. If we have that little scarecrow Bethany making nasty snide derogatory comments I am going to formally complain to ITV.

  2. I'm glad Rochfort will be doing it. It really is in safe hands.

  3. I also hope Deirdre's funeral is done in good taste and not become a farce a la Betty's when her farewell became a storyline about Stella Price losing the Rovers to Gordon who 'inherited' it from his mother.
Ideally I would like to see the whole episode dedicated to Deirdre's farewell and not distracted by other storylines namely those centered around the Platts.
