It's Christmas Eve, and as Santa prepares to depart with his sleigh loaded with wishes and dreams, David and Tyrone battle it out to build the same doll's house, and various Weatherfield residents steel themselves for a not so merry time.
As David secretly sabotages Tyrone's efforts, Callum attempts to do the same to Kylie's hopes for a happy Christmas. The present of a bauble depicting a happy family scene from David and the children is enough to make her confront him, and while Callum claims she's number one on
his Christmas list, she has no intentions of making his wishes come true, assuring him she loves David and demanding he leave her
family in peace. Taking the drugs Callum offers, Kylie rips the bag apart and gives him the White Christmas he would never have wished for. Did anyone else hear the hilarious growl at the end? Was an image of Callum looking sinister not enough without the sound effects? I was half expecting him to turn into a werewolf.
The
relentless, unfair and at times inexplicable treatment of Gary by his family continues, but he did himself no favours tonight. Owen is disgusted to hear he borrowed from Faye to buy a gift for Jake, and he continues to do no right as, much to the disdain of Izzy, he buys the same present as
Anna for their son. Gary returns the gift, but instead of buying another, he drinks the money. Once this is discovered, he seals his fate as an interminable waste of space, and despite his shortcomings at times, you cannot but sympathise with him.
Steve's offer of a 4 course
meal, free bar and presents is not enough for Lloyd who is still smarting over their confrontation. But he soon has more serious things on his mind as he takes off for Spain following the news that Jenna's holiday there has gone awry, and she has
been arrested for fraud.
It's not a Christmas of cliffhangers for Corrie this year, but I'm looking forward to tomorrow evening's hour-long episode nonetheless, and while it promises to be a tad grim, I hope there will be some characteristic Christmas sparkle.
I'd like to take this opportunity of saying a very Merry Christmas to our editor Glenda, my fellow bloggers, readers and commenters. May it be a happy, joyful and peaceful one for you all.

For what it's worth,I don't feel sorry for Gary drinking away his son's Christmas present money.Of course this will be his excuse\justification for trying to rob from Roy's café?
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas one and all as I go off-line and off-Corrie for the whole of the festive season. Cold turkey in more ways than one! See you in 2015!
ReplyDeleteLloyd's swift departure to "rescue" Jenna was a bit random - is that him absent for months now?? - BUT WHY IS ANDREA STILL THERE?? A totally pointless appendage to the already burgeoning cast.
ReplyDeleteBack at you, Emma, I enjoy and look forward to your reviews. All the best for 2015.
