With thanks to @ianwylie on twitter for alerting me to this exclusive in today's Sun (which I can't see online as I don't pay for it).
Coronation Street actor Ian Puleston-Davies, who plays Owen Armstrong, is leaving Coronation Street.
Ian says: "Next year I will have been playing Owen Armstrong for five years and it
felt like a good point to move on. I
have returned to my writing and in 2015 hope to put on a new play. But
I'd never rule out returning to the role of Owen at some point."
Corrie Producer
Stuart Blackburn
said: "We wish Ian all the very best and there is still a lot of
fantastic drama to come for him before he leaves."
I wish Ian well. Owen is a hugely believable character and I will miss him. Without him, I wonder if there's room for Eddie Windass to return to Anna's life? Bring back Steve Huison!

Eddie! Eddie! Eddie!
ReplyDeleteIan P-D is an excellent well established actor and I dont blame him wanting to do other things. Let this be the natural end of the Windarms now, with Katie going too. Patronising Anna and her sing song voice to go with him and the rather pointless Izzy. They have had their day on the Street now. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThis is my guess at how things turn out. Izzy dies in the minibus crash which is the reason for mother's return. Katie goes back with mother and babies Joseph and Jake. Owen shortly follows to give support to his family. Anna would have put up a fight about Jake but she has Faye's baby to bring up. Gary is now a free man and available to either Alya or any other female.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I reckon it has bought the inevitable affair between Anna and Tim that much closer.
ReplyDeleteBring back Eddie as a changed business man ! We love Eddie ! Steve Huison was ace as Eddie . Eddies supposedly been abroad all this time . Perhaps he's been making 'loadsa money' and become a millionaire ! That would be hilarious . I can see Anna's face as he pulls up in a Bentley !
ReplyDeleteOwen has been a good character, not always very likeable but played very well. You always wonder if actors decide to leave if they aren't going to be happy with an upcoming storyline, that is, Faye's pregnancy if that comes through. Owen has been on the "back burner" more or less for most of this year and perhaps he is anxious to be busy again. Anyway, all the best of luck.
ReplyDeleteI think his exit may tie in with the rumoured ex wife's return, and yes, that could very well lead to Anna and Tim getting together and Sally's heart broken yet again. Please PLEASE don't put Sally and Kevin back together!!!
Frankly I've never really thought much of Owen's character. He may be a competent actor but him and his storylines just were not compelling. And same with the chemistry between him and Anna, him and his daughters -- somehow all of it just didn't work that well.
ReplyDeleteI hope Anna and Tim do get together and Sally Webster eats her heart out. I cannot stand this character who hasn't developed or moved in decades -- to the extent that she is now just a buffoon, dumb as a doorknob full of social ambitions and insecurities even as a middle-aged woman with grown daughters. Maybe they will just switch partners except that Sally will also leave same time Owen does.
How quickly folk have forgotten what a nasty bully owen was til he had a quick personality change when the producers wanted to put him with anna. I never liked him with anna and i really hope eddie comes back. It would be nice to see faye, gary, anna and eddie back together.
ReplyDeleteI hate the thought of Anna with Tim, it's just so glaringly apparent that this is what was always going to happen. I can't bear the thought of dopey Faye being all smug, which she will be.
ReplyDeleteThere is a thread dangling re Owen and that thread is the brie-abusing, sexual harassing Pat Phelan. I don't think his exit has ever been solved satisfactorily. He just got to ride merrily off into the sunset, after taking Owen and co. for a ride and more or less raping Anna. And we all know the first rule of Soapland is "Villains always get punished" So I think Owen's departure will somehow be tied to Phelan getting his comeuppance
ReplyDeleteThe writers should send Owen to prison for killing Phelan.
ReplyDeleteAdd me to the chorus of people begging for the return of the Bin Fairy!
