Andrea and Lloyd - Yay or Nay?

Storylines and characters come and go on Coronation Street. I like some of them, I dislike some of them. I probably like stories and characters that you don't like, yes you, reading this. And some of your favourites will be on my dislike list.

Some storylines are dull and easily ignored and I thought Andrea and Lloyd might be one of them. But this romance fails on all fronts, for this Corrie fan, and it's bugged me into blogging.

There is zero chemistry between Andrea and Lloyd. They are not believable as a couple. Andrea's husband Neil is clearly mentally ill and going through some sort of breakdown over losing Andrea. It should not be funny, but it is, because anything that anyone does to split up Andrea and Lloyd and show them for the farce that they are, can only be applauded.

Now then, I love Lloyd, always have and always will.  Andrea seems okay but the two of them together just Does Not Work. And while I'm having a moan about Andrea, where's this mysterious child called Jess she keeps mentioning?

Come on, Corrie. Split these two up, Put Lloyd and Eileen together one drunken night in the Streetcars office where they have a heart-to-heart over Fat Brenda's gypsy creams and let Andrea go back to Neil. Please.

  1. Agreed. Hayley Tamaddon is, very obviously, the product of stage school, and as a result, Andrea is just so damn bubbly you want to slap her.

Neil is equally irritating, and if Lloyd and Andrea really want to avoid him, maybe they should go further afield to eat and drink than just the Rovers or the Bistro.

Lloyd and Eileen getting together would be comedy gold... no matter how long it lasted.

NAY NAY NAY. You have to feel a bit sorry for Neil, annoying he may be but he worked abroad to give Andrea a good life, then after 20 years of marraige she ups and leaves him for the local cabbie, which has obviously sent him a bit doolally. Andrea is so bloody annoying and not particularly likeable and Lloyd is also becoming so, and this story is being dragged on and on ad nauseum. Where is this invisible daughter, you would thought she would have had some interest in her parents' marraige break up.

  3. Lloyd and fat brenda - after all she's mentioned nearly every eрisode these days! ;)

  4. Andrea is annoying,no doubt. I agreed with Jenny a long time ago, something is up with her. Andrea seems the crazy one. In fact, if they want to save the character, simply make her the crazy one and have it slowly unfold. In the end, Neil will have been trying to protect his wife from what he really knows of her personality treats.
Yes, to Lloyd and Eileen. Lloyd is a fun character but he's hard to match up with someone.

  5. Agreed. This story line is not working, and watching it just makes me uncomfortable. I feel sorry for Neil, poor guy, who is going through something more than just a marriage breakup.

  6. I have to agree, too. It's not working for me and it's just painful watching Neil string them along. Anon above has a good idea, make Andrea the crazy one but I doubt they'll be that creative. It's already clear that Neil is having a breakdown, not trying to convince Lloyd that Andrea is ill. I just don't care about any of them in this storyline in spite of liking Lloyd as a character.

  7. Nothing will redeem this storyline. It was botched up very early on and it's beyond rescuing. Andrea was annoying right from the beginning and viewers don't like to be annoyed. Gloria, Yasmeen, and quite a few other characters are guilty of this. I really don't care at all about anyone in this triangle.

  8. Nay!! Never thought Lloyd and Andrea were suited from the start, at first Andrea was a breath of fresh air but her character was quickly ruined. It's all a farce really. I don't see Lloyd and Eileen together either. --Smelloid

  9. Andrea is horrible. We are constantly being told what fun she is and how likeable she is without ever seeing the evidence for that onscreen (compare with Steph, for example, who's fun and jolly because of the script). She lied to Lloyd about having a husband, she dumped Neil without a second thought and has been cruel to him throughout. Her explanation has basically been "you're a bit dull" and it took her two months of separation before she finally demanded a divorce (what took her so long?). She hasn't told her daughter yet that she's dumped her father and she drove Jenna off into the sunset. Basically she's vile.

And is this a comedy plot line or a serious story about stalking? Are we meant to be worried about how far Neil will go? Or are we meant to be waiting for it to reach its hilarious climax? JUST MAKE IT END. Preferably with Andrea falling into some kind of industrial grinding machinery.

  10. Definately nay. None of stuart blackburns new characters he's brought in to take the limelight of all our favourites have worked. Get rid of Andrea, the nazir family, steph, luke and bring back todd's old personality. I suspect Neil will take his own life and lloyd & andrea will live happily ever after. If only Domenic Treadwell-collins (eastenders EP) had a brother. Eastenders was on it's knees and he turned it around within a week of him starting.

  11. Andrea and Neil are dragging Lloyd's character down and this storyline is naff!

    When will it end?

  12. I think they should axe this relationship, and finally get Lloyd a woman for real. A relationship that will last. I'm so sick of watching people split up on this show. We need another "Jack & Vera" couple.
On another point, I think they should get Tina Mallone to play fat Brenda. She was utterly fantastic in Shameless as Mimi McGuire.

    1. Yes, JD25, another long term couple is needed in the street and IMO it could have been Tracy and Rob. He keeps her vileness in check and I have grown to really care for this couple. In time, and with proper writing, Tracy would have become the next Blanche, saying the truth with a lot of vinegar; and Rob would have been able to give Tracy a conscience. It could have worked, if only Marc Bayliss was not getting fired.

  13. No, I don't think Lloyd and Andrea work at all - she seems much too young for him and there's zero chemistry between them.

Lloyd and Eileen wouldn't work either, Eileen is such a bitter, hateful bitch.

Either get Lloyd a proper match, someone nearer his own age, or just leave him to be a batchelor - what's wrong with that?

  14. Don't understand all these people saying Lloyd and Andrea have no chemistry - I think they are a cute couple. I don't like that they made her a cheat , but she seems to genuinely love Lloyd. To say he'd be better off with bitter frumpy Eileen is madness.

  15. Why is it that no-one Lloyd goes out with is ever good enough for the viewers? When he was with Liz everyone moaned and now people are saying they should get back together, when he was with Cheryl everyone moaned and now people are saying they should bring her back. Mandy was too fat/moody. Andrea is at least bright and pretty and pleasant, but for some reason she's not good enough either. I know we all love Lloyd but what is it going to take for a woman to finally be deemed 'good enough' for him???

  16. Good God NAY! Absolutely correct-Zero chemistry between the two! Andrea's constant OTT cheeriness is beyond the pale and quite irritating. I see she hangs on for dear life on the Rover's roof...maybe a head injury, carted off to hospital for a lengthy stay while Lloyd is off filming....?

  17. I thought Mandy was perfect for Lloyd. Previous history, right age and they had chemistry IMO. Mandy didn't have an attitude nor was she moody. She just couldn't believe how immature Lloyd was/is.

  18. I agree with the comments. Hayley T and Craig C have zero chemistry and in fact look like they are trying too hard. The storyline is ridiculous and boring . I want it to stop. I feel sorry for the actor who is playing her husband. His acting is good . It's what he's given to work with that's crap

  19. I really quite enjoy Lloyd and Andrea...they make a cute couple....Neil, Andrea and Lloyd all excellent actors! One Canadian girl's opinion...

  20. Lloyd should pair up with Julie , or Carla
    Or Maddie
Or Marcus!!! Just anyone but Andrea
