Sean's new fella - a Vicar called Billy
ITV have announced that Daniel Brocklebank has been cast in the role of the man that will be Sean's new love. We've already heard about a new romance for knicker-stitcher/barman Sean and the details have been released.
Brocklebank is going to play a vicar called Billy. Billy will be the new clergy at Emily's church and will meet Sean while they are on a night out.
Obviously, Billy's career is going to cause a few bumps along the way. Stuart Blackburn says:
“It’s about time Sean had a romance, he’s been unlucky in love for a long time. Billy is a great guy who is sincere about his feelings for Sean but his first love is and always will be God and the Church. We will be exploring this very modern relationship in the coming months and are delighted to have Daniel on board to play Billy.”
Antony Cotton is sure the new storyline will be interesting and so do I. I think it's a good twist and one that is worth exploring. Daniel is reported to be thrilled to be joining the cast and is good mates with Hayley Tamaddon who plays Andrea. He will be on screen starting in December.
He's had RSC threatre experience and has appeared in films such as Shakespeare in Love and The Hole and has been in loads of televsion including rival soap, Emmerdale. His IMDB entry is here.

ReplyDeleteIt is about time Sean had a proper storyline, I just hope this shows a different side to him.
Yes I agree.
ReplyDeleteI am very happy about this new story line. I love Sean. I know some really don't...but I really like him, always have. He has paid his dues on this show and needs a proper relationship. Really looking forward to this one.
ReplyDeleteThis storyline has the potential to explore and confront some long-standing prejudices and positions regarding homosexuality and religion. Let's hope the program takes this seriously and seeks appropriate advice from reputable sources.
ReplyDeleteHow about a straight atheist on the show? Hmmm? Wouldn't that be controversial...
ReplyDeleteIf Emily fell in love with the mature, attractive, straight atheist, and questioned her faith... now that could be interesting and controversial.
ReplyDeleteWell there's Ken he an atheist and straight and so far there has been little controversy.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'll reserve final judgement until he is on screen, that publicity photo doesn't look like any vicar I've seen. I think, once again, they've gone for "smouldering good looks" over believability. And doubtless he'll have some deep, dark secret!
ReplyDeleteI hope that this is a mature relationship. It seems like they always paint Sean as a very immature, jealous lover. He needs to be secure and believe he is loved. He's not getting any younger, time he and his love life grew up.
ReplyDeleteI love Sean too and I really hope he gets the man this time. For keeps.
