I know fans out there are finding the triangle between Lloyd, Andrea and Neil to be tedious. Andrea has lost her freshness, her spark and we all think Lloyd deserves better and can see more heartbreak coming a mile away.
Neil is seen to be just as Andrea thinks of him, boring and dull but he's also just had his whole world blown apart by something he never saw coming. He sees himself as a dependable bloke, a good provider and a good husband and father. He's probably all of those things but because he's spent most of his life working out of the country and Andrea felt like she married too young, it was never bound to work. He just doesn't accept it.
Neil is starting to creep me out with his single minded obsession to getting Andrea back. Where do I see this going? How much does he remind me of another former Corrie character? Read about it here on State of the Street.

Neil is getting downright creepy and you know it's not going to end well! It feels like someone is going to end up being injured physically and I only hope it's not Lloyd. I must say though, we did laugh when Neil asked Lloyd what movie they were planning to watch. My hope is that they will go the creepy/fun route instead of the creepy/violent route with this story line.
ReplyDeleteTvor, I think your idea of abduction is an interesting one. The question I have atm is about Craig Charles's exit which they seem to be keeping very quiet about. Red Dwarf filming starts in November and CC has only got a couple of more months of filming if, indeed, he does leave the Street. Neil is becoming more unhinged so he might try and take Andrea away from what he perceives as danger. Shades of Gary protecting/imprisoning Izzie in the flat. Two options: one is that this actually happens, but Craig rescues Andrea and they leave the Street to start a new life, having made a deal with Neil not to involve the police; second option is that Neil gets progressively more of a threat and they disappear before any abduction occurs. Andrea might reveal that he almost did something like that when first married.
ReplyDeleteToo late now but do you think Andrea might have become a more sympathetic character if we learned that she only married Neil because she was pregnant? Her family put pressure on her to marry and made her feel lucky (though resentful) that Neil turned out to be such a good provider.
I see a hostage-taking at The Rovers or the cab office
ReplyDeleteI don't think it would have made any difference because she did keep the truth from both Steve and Lloyd. It surprised me in a way because she and Steve were such good mates, even before it was obvious she had a crush on him. You'd have thought that a husband working away might have come up in general conversation as they first got to know each other. She did mention her daughter, after all.
ReplyDeleteYes Neil is a bit annoying and a tiny bit creepy and turning into a stalker but he really was hit by a thunderbolt. Andrea gave him no indication she was off with another bloke while he was working abroad to keep that nice little house of theirs. Then suddenly after 20 years of marraige she ups sticks and moves in with some cabbie. You have to look at it from his side. The bloody woman just cannot be trusted!
ReplyDeleteThis whole Andrea scenario seems like they have just written it on the fly. It does not ring true that she would not have mentioned she had a husband when she and Steve first met...unless she was trying to hide it, in which case she was devious from the get go. I mean that is one of the first things new friends talk about....are you married, do you have kids, what do you do etc...
ReplyDeleteSo now, her pleas of "I didn't mean for this to happen, I didn't plan it", blah blah blah make no sense. It's a shame really, here's another character that has evolved into a rather unlikable waste of time. And while I understand that Neil is confused, angry and betrayed, the level of creepiness is growing by the episode. I hope he doesn't turn into another John Stape.
@Zagg, I don't think Andrea would have told her new friends about her old life if she went back to school hoping to get a taste of independence and autonomy.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I think the storyline would have been more powerful if Andrea was genuinely torn between her loyal husband and her new exciting flame. Then we could see her wrangling with complex emotions.
As it is, the script tells us that she's out of love with her husband (who seems nice enough) and head over heels in love with Lloyd (after 5 minutes, during which we've never seen evidence of passion), so it's all about as deep as a puddle.
I'm Team Neil. His wife of 20 years has just announced she doesn't love him, without warning. He's not had any indication that he ever did anything wrong. And now she's flaunting her new love. He's confused and sad.
ReplyDeletePlus, in all of this, has Andrea actually begun divorce proceedings? Because that might be a really big hint to him that things are done.
People fall out of love. He was away more than he was home. That would have eroded their relationship over the years. Should Andrea sacrifice her's and Lloyd's happiness to a promise she made 20 years ago? Like she said, it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. Personally, I would not want a partner to stay with me because of a promise made years ago if the love had gone. I would rather have honest love than dishonest duty. Give Andrea a break, she did the best thing for both of them (her and Neil). He needs to back off and move on.
ReplyDeleteI guess Andrea's days are numbered if Neil is turning into a stalker (kind of reminds me of Karl - all desperate like).
